day in the life

HealthKare

Charlotte Evans and Carolyn Jarvis opened a Kare Plus Office in Windsor in October 2011. They have extensive knowledge of the care sector as Charlotte is a registered nurse and Carolyn is a former social worker.

7:00am We both have children so spend the first part of our day like most working mums – multi-tasking! Making sure our children have eaten a healthy breakfast and are dressed and ready for school on time, whilst trying to get ourselves organised for a busy day in the office.

8:00am After the school run, Carolyn usually pops back home to take the family dog for a walk – she really enjoy this time of the day as it gives her a little quiet time to relax and think about what new experiences and challenges the day may bring.

8:30am-10:30am We both like to be organised so spend the first part of the day checking and responding to emails, opening post and resolving any items that require our attention. We always have a catch up in

the morning to chat through any issues and to prioritise and allocate workload for the day.

10:30am-12:30pm Today Charlotte is office based working through compliance issues regarding staff recruitment. There is also a steady stream of nursing and care staff popping in to drop off time sheets, collect uniforms and agree shift patterns. Carolyn is out and about in the local

area visiting a care home where she successfully secures new business in the form of nursing shifts.

1:00pm Lunch is normally a salad or sandwich at our desks when we have half an hour to spare.

1:30pm We have a number of interviews arranged

for this afternoon to recruit additional nursing and care staff. Time is also spent updating our online

job ads and sifting through a new batch of CVs.

3:00pm-5:30pm Whilst our client base is steadily growing we spend a chunk of our day marketing; whether writing introductory letters, emails or calling prospective customers with the view to making appointments for the following week. We also spend time on work related

to registration with the Care Quality Commission. This is so that we can launch another planned phase of our business – domiciliary care.

6:00pm We usually arrive home about 6pm and after sorting the evening meal, making sure all homework is done and the school bags are packed ready for tomorrow sleep usually comes very easily! n
