Belvoir set to open 15 new franchises

n Belvoir Lettings, which currently has 142 offices nationwide, has revealed ambitious plans to open 15 new franchises in 2012. Christopher Watkin, head of Belvoir

recruitment, said: “Since the news of Belvoir’s stock-market flotation listing appeared in the national and trade press there has been a noticeable increase in enquiries from the South East and London areas where we specifically aim to target this year.” “All a potential franchise owner needs to succeed is drive, determination, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills, as Belvoir can provide the necessary training. Prior to starting with Belvoir just two per cent of our franchise owners had a property

background and yet our top 25 per cent of franchise owners achieved an average turnover of £313,721.91 and our top 10 per cent of offices achieved an average turnover of £408,831.16.” “We have discovered that the things

that really matter to potential franchise owners are the strength of the Belvoir brand and the level of support they will receive. They are also able talk to other franchise owners and become part of the Belvoir family, receiving support and advice from people who have been in the same position.” He added: “Belvoir already has a

strong presence in the Midlands and North West and we are actively targeting other areas in 2012 including Northern Ireland and the south of England.”

Talented youngsters win prestigious award

n Children from Razzamataz Theatre School recently attended a celebration to recognise their success at winning a prestigious scholarship held in association with The Stage newspaper. The talented youngsters all attend classes at the performing-arts school and were awarded the year-long scholarships after presenting a short film showing them performing either a musical-theatre song and dance, commercial dance, pop song, drama improvisation or scripted drama piece. Claire Walford, principal of Razzamataz Yeovil and Street, Somerset, said: “The Stage is a

very respected newspaper for the performing-arts industry and it will be an enormous benefit for all the winners to be able to put on their CV that they were a winner of a Razzamataz scholarship.” Actress Barbara Windsor also made a guest appearance at the party to talk to the children and offer them advice on showbusiness. As well as X Factor winner Shayne Ward and Justin Lee Collins, stars of smash-hit musical ‘Rock of Ages’. One student, Lauren Skinner said: “I feel that it is already opening up opportunities that would not otherwise be available to me.”

Razzamataz is one of the fastest

growing theatre schools in the UK, having shot to prominence when founder and managing director Denise Hutton-Gosney appeared on BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2007. There are more than 40 part-time Razzamataz Theatre Schools, all successfully following the franchise formulae that Denise Hutton- Gosney and Duncan Bannatyne have created.

n After being made redundant Nick Wolfe, 46, wanted something that was going to offer him more flexibility. He now runs a successful Tumble Tots franchise in Kent, organising classes that help develop children’s agility, balance and co- ordination.

Started out: I was made redundant from my job at Vodafone and it was then that I seriously started to consider going into franchising. With my next job I wanted the freedom and flexibility that running my own business would bring with it, but I also wanted a business model that was safe and structured. I’d heard about Tumble Tots through having two children of my own and, although they’d never attended any of the classes, I knew it was something that children would enjoy. After a bit more research into the company, I decided to go for it and, with the help of my partner, Donna, I set up the franchise.

Today: We run the full Tumble Tots programme at our centres including Gymbabes, Tumble Tots and Gymbobs. The Gymbabes classes are for the youngest children, aged from 6 months to when they can start walking. The classes include parent involvement and help to stimulate and encourage babies to use all their senses, gently and without pressure. We use brightly coloured equipment to help children learn how to play, explore and crawl. It’s very rewarding to see the children’s confidence soar as their ability to do new things develops. It’s also great to hear the positive feedback from the parents and I love the fact that the children enjoy it so much.
