Franchisee membership moves a step closer
Franchisees of bfa member franchisors have been invited to subscribe to a new membership.
The new membership will provide franchisees with access to a range of valuable business benefits and resources, as well as the opportunity to nominate and elect franchisee members to the bfa board. With almost 100 per cent of franchisees now listed on the franchisee
register, the bfa has begun writing to each of them with details of the new subscription membership and instructions on how to join.
bfa raises TV profile
The bfa has been working with three TV shows over the past few months in a bid to further raise its profile.
The shows include the BBC news
programme ‘show me the money’, the BBC One show ‘Fake Britain’ and a new series on Sky helping people looking to start a new business. The programme, ‘Show Me the Money’, discusses the many aspects of the franchise industry, concentrating on how influential and important franchising is in the UK economy, with interviews and objective advice from the bfa. The bfa’s work with the show ‘Fake Britain’ highlights the importance research has in avoiding being caught out by bad businesses using franchising terminology and the promise of support, and provides an insight into what can be achieved when research is carried out thoroughly.
The new documentary series, to be
aired on Sky’s Go channel, explores the many aspects of investing in a franchise, also highlighting the role of the bfa in relation to both promoting ethnical franchising in the UK and helping the industry develop credibility.
Franchising in scotland is celebrated Franchising will take on a decidedly Scottish
flavour this summer when the bfa presents the 9th Scottish Franchise Week, featuring a range of events and activities aimed at highlighting the importance of franchising in Scotland.
The event, which is sponsored by Lloyds TSB and supported by Platinum Wave, will take place 30 April - 4 May. Franchising plays a large role in Scottish business, with nearly 500 different brands operating in Scotland today, accounting for over 2,000 individual franchisee businesses. Despite the economic challenges that many people have faced over the past

couple of years, franchising has shown itself to be a robust opportunity, either allowing businesses to strengthen their plans for growth, or providing new lives for many people looking to become their own boss.
During Scottish Franchise Week a whole host of events and educational platforms will be put in place to help raise the awareness of franchising in Scotland. The Scottish Business Breakfast remains the key event with 300 business people attending, but there will also be a number of parliamentary receptions, dinners, seminars and exhibitions also taking place.
