almost £200,000 in the new SFC franchise. The brand recently underwent a major overhaul following managing director Andrew Withers’ appearance on Channel 4’s ‘Undercover Boss’. The La Bella Family, who already own


six other franchises in Norwich including a Papa John’s Pizza and five Subway outlets, chose to invest in SFC after identifying a gap in the market for a quick-service restaurant that offers locally reared and sourced poultry. The ‘new look’ SFC, which has already launched in over 30 countries worldwide, has opened its doors in eight UK locations over the past four months. From its head office in Reading, Andrew


He added: “It’s also very special for my family to have an SFC presence in Norwich, as Norfolk is where the business dream began. Moving from wartime London, Dad enjoyed a much quieter life on the farm caring for and raising chickens before moving to the US and coming up with the SFC idea.” Andrew’s father, Arthur Withers, trademarked the name ‘Southern Fried Chicken’ in 1983, following a stint in the US, in Greenville, Carolina, where he came across the famed SFC recipe. (FFS) brand, differs from its competitors in that it prepares all its food freshly on the premises and does not use reconstituted chicken meat in any of its products. FFS is the holding company, under the umbrella of which several well-known brands such as Southern Fried Chicken, AJ’s Piri Piri, Fast Food Systems Ltd and Vizu equipment are held. Fast Food Systems Ltd is a European leader in the supply and manufacture of commercial catering equipment. Andrew Withers will be a keynote speaker at The British & International Franchise Exhibition taking place at Olympia, London, on 16th and 17th March. He will be delivering a speech on the subject of 'Growing a franchised business overseas.' n
