IN-COSMETICS ASIA

Pentavitin is the first product for hair care applications that works as a soothing active for rinse-off products to deeply hydrate the scalp and relieve sensitivity. The in vivo study has proven its protective effect to be significant at extremely low concentrations. A barrier repair was shown to be more than twice as fast as the control and as much as 24 hours quicker than the leading benchmark, while the reduction of erythema (redness of the skin) was twice that of the benchmark. Evonik’s Personal Care Business Line

displayed a series of innovative products at the exhibition: Tego Pep 4-even, which balances skin tone on all kinds of skin types and visibly diminishes age spots and brightens the skin; Tegosoft AC, a very light emollient based on natural raw material and produced in a sustainable enzymatic process; the silicone-based w/o (water-in- oil) emulsifier ABIL EM 180, which can be used in many different applications and provides outstanding emulsifying properties and excellent compatibility, even at low use levels. Barry Zhang, senior technical manager

for the Asia Pacific region, gave a presentation on ‘Innovative Peptide and Ceramide Technologies for Even, Young and Healthy Looking Skin’. Yulia Susanti, PT technical service supervisor, Evonik’s Sumi Asih lectured on ‘Emollients Made to Meet the Trends in South-East Asia’. Evonik also presented its new

investment project in China. With an organics production facility in Shanghai to come and the existing Bekasi plant, Evonik will be well-positioned to meet Asian market needs and the customers will benefit from high-quality, pure and safe products thanks to cutting-edge technology. “In-cosmetics Asia 2011 was a

success. The show always provides a good opportunity for meeting existing as well as

potential customers face to face, exploring new innovations and technologies and learning about the latest trends,” said Lauren Kjeldsen, business director Asia Pacific of Evonik’s Business Line Personal Care. “We look forward to in-cosmetics in Bangkok in 2012.” New company, Innovacos, was

promoting a fruit active that aims to prevent and repair UV-induced skin erythema and damage to the skin barrier, InnoPom. Using a proprietary technique, the company has recombined juice taken from pomegranate arils with pomegranate seed oil obtained through super critical CO2

extraction in a stabilised and water-

dispersible powder. The ratio between the juice and the seed oil mimics that which is found in the fruit itself. In this way, the pomegranate fruit is re-engineered in its biologically active components just as it is in nature. Innopom is said to be ideal for sensitive

skin management, reinforcement of skin barrier, prevention and repair of UV-induced damage, skin water management, and protection against environmental harm. Korean company, Kao, was detailing

the efficacy of Levenol H&B, a glycerine polyoxyethylene ester, that is a multifunctional and versatile non-ionic co-surfactant for hair and body care. It performs as a thickener and foam booster in rinse off cleansers, but at the same time improves skin and hair conditioning due to its ester chemical nature. Being a glycerine derivative, Levenol H&B additionally shows good skin moisturising properties. Levenol H&B is not water soluble,

therefore to get completely transparent solutions it is recommended to use it in a maximum ratio of one to three of anionic active matter. Most surfactants need to include some cautionary signs or safety phrases on their label, while Levenol H&B

presents no risk either for human use or for the environment. Levenol H&B is readily biodegradable under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, shows low aquatic toxicity and is very mild for the skin and eyes. Levenol H&B is a concentrated

surfactant, liquid even at low temperature, almost colourless and odourless, of vegetable origin, and free of solvents and preservatives. French company, Lessonia, was

promoting MicroZest 25, a range of natural plant powders that have been micronised to produce effective natural colouring pigments and can be easily dispersed throughout any kind of formulation (pressed or loose powders, lipsticks, balms, glosses and oil-based products) and are perfectly adapted to emulsions. Included in the range is MicroZest 25 Anthocyan Pink, which is a natural pigment manufactured from the skin of red grapes. A distinctive deep pink powder with some purple tones, it is ideal for a large variety of cosmetic and make-up products such as lipsticks, lip balms, gloss, press and loose powders. Also available is MicroZest 25 Red

Quinoa, which is a bright pink powder manufactured from the bran of the red quinoa. This is an ancient variety organically grown on small family plots on the Andean plateau in Bolivia. Although traditionally only recognised for its nourishing properties, quinoa has recently been given the attention it deserves by modern phyto-cosmetics for its excellent chemical characteristics. In cosmetics, quinoa is often used for skin care applications as an excellent anti-oxidant, emollient, softener and moisturiser. Lipotec was focusing on its anti-ageing nutricosmetic formulation. Invertage Capsules contain a food-grade functional formulation with efficacy in preventing skin
