nail enhancements - liquid&powder top tips
CNDTrainingAmbassadorAmanda Fontanarrosa shares her secrets for creating liquid and powder enhancements.
What are your general preparation tips for L&P? L&P like any other systemrequires a clean, dehydrated surface for secure adhesion. CND’s Retention+ andMoxie liquids are keratin bonding so there is no need to ‘rough’ the nail to create mechanical bonding.A great tip for clients with oily nails is to reduce the amount of time between dehydration and product application. I use Scrubfresh to clean and dehydrate immediately before applying product - one nail at a time, instead of Scrubfreshing all 10, then applying product. Oils canmove up through the nail plate pretty quickly and before you know it, you've planted the seed for lifting.
Do you have any quirky personal tips for creating the perfect L&P overlay? I really try to break down the process of applying a bead. I tellmy students to ‘let the bead settle’, press in themiddle so two ‘bulges’ appear each side of the brush, then move the bulges towards the sides of the nail with small controlled presses. Then, to ‘close the bead’, as if tucking in a sheet.
How has it evolved lately? CND is on the cutting edge of Liquid and Powder
technology.They developed reinforced cross-linked
polymers. They are complex and create a net-like structure providing tremendous toughness, enhanced retention and superior workability. For nail professionals, this technology saves time, is easier to work with, prevents problems and wins client loyalty.
Who is the systemmost suited to? Clients with soft, pliable nails. Clients who have a high activity level, and those who like to wear their nails long.
Do you have any tips on getting the liquid to powder ratio right? Mix ratio should be easy. Make sure you know yourmanufacturer’smix ratio - they are all different. CND works best at one and a half parts liquid to one part powder. If a manufacturer is telling you thatmix ratio doesn'tmatter or ‘anything goes’, then run. It truly doesmatter to avoid somany pitfalls.

To create a strong, long lasting and stylish enhancement, CND offer patented sculpting liquid and powders which utilise cross- linking technology to enable colour clarity and stability, tough nails and resistance to solvents and water.
All of their liquids and powders can be used together as a system. CND offer three different sculpting liquids so you can choose one that is best suited to your client’s nail.
The Retention+™has been especially designed for lift-prone nails; it forms a covalent and ionic bond whichmeans the enhancement has superior adhesion to the natural nail.
If your client is prone to chipping and cracking then the Radical SolarNail™ would be the CND best liquid to use as it creates a tough and crack resistant enhancement.
TheMoxie™on the other hand reduces application and cure time so if your client wants immaculate nails in an instant then thismay be ideal for them.
In order to achieve a French enhancement CND have a choice of sculpting powders. Their Perfect Colour Powder is ideal if your client is after amore colourful pink. However, if they want amore natural look then the Colour Sheer Powdersmay be more suitable as they offer a clear protection, allowing the natural nail to show through under the enhancement.
Alternatively, NSIAttractionAcrylic Systemalso has impressive adhesion, strength and flexibility to achieve a vibrant pink and white enhancement.
NSI’s tri-polymer sculpting powders are designed for effortless workability as well as having unique adhesion to the nail, strength and
flexibility. They have also been designed to be colour stable and not turn
yellow. They come in a variety of white and pinks, so whether your client wants to create a natural looking French
manicure or amore dramatic and eye- catching one, there is a colour to suit them.
TheAttraction nail liquid also uses cross- linking technology and has been designed to be long-lasting and
strong. Also, if your client prefers the natural look then NSI’s liquid is ideal for themas it creates a thin enhancement to appearmore like the natural
nail.Additionally, the formula uses a UV shield to block out UV exposure to retain colour and keep enhancements looking new.
Furthermore, NSI liquid does not include MMA which has been a controversial issue over the years. Originally used in dentists, themonomer has built up a reputation of being extremely hard and therefore difficult to file and soak off and is said to damage the nail. However, some nail brands still use it as it sets fast.
NSI also offer anAttraction Primer in order to providemaximumstrength and adhesion, to ensure your clients enhancements don’t lift.
