organic sunless tanning

Clients aren’t only looking for organic products to eat,

they are living an organicway of life, which includes the tanning products they put on their skin

Offering ‘alternatives’ in your salon is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury these days, with clients a lotmore aware and not willing to part with their cash until they find the perfect product or treatment.

With natural and organic products becoming popular over the years and consumersmuchmore conscious of what goes into their body, a natural or organic alternative to yourmost popular tanning treatments is a definitemust, even in these difficult times.

A recent survey fromMintel shows that nearly 40 percent of consumers claimthat they haven’t changed organic product purchasing habits because of the recession and only amere three percent have stopped buying organic products altogether, showing that there is still a high percentage of clients willing to splash out on a natural or organic beauty product or treatment, including tanning treatments and products.

With the growth of the internet and research, many clients are becoming aware of what goes into products and what harmful effects chemicals, such as parabens, can have on their body when absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream– after all, we wouldn’t expect clients to eat these chemicals. With this comes a savvy client armed with lots of questions for you on the hunt for the right treatment.

Britta Brooker ofWow Factor says: “Since launching the Organics range, the feedback fromcustomers has confirmed that this is a definite and positive way forward and many clients don’t only look for organic products to eat, butmore seemto adapt their whole way of living the ‘organic’way, which includes all products they use on their skin.”

In order to ‘move with the times’ and keep a hold on clients, it’s essential that you take an interest in organic tanning products and consider introducing theminto your treatment offerings. One of themain things to be aware of when it comes to doing this is that you know you’re ingredients inside

out so that you can easily identify an organic or natural product at a glance, whether it’s certified by an organic body or not.

“Look for products that don’t rely solely on DHA to develop a tan colour,” says Emma Doherty, brandmanager for Jane Iredale. “Dihydroyacetone (DHA) only colours the top layer of the skin, it imposes a colour that is not your own natural tan.The surface colour doesn’t produce a long- lasting tan because as the skin naturally exfoliates, it sheds the colour, which can result in uneven patchiness.”

Choosing an organic or natural tanning brand that your clients will love asmuch as your existing brands, and achieve the desired results, can seemdaunting, but it doesn’t have to be with TanningWorld’s round-up of what’s on themarket…
