nail competitions competition crazy!
We take a look at some of the rule changes at the year's nail competitions
As we announced lastmonth, two of the UK'smost popular nail competitions are returning this Spring so we thought we'd take this opportunity to update you on some of the changes for this season.
Full rules and regulations for all competitions and categories can be found in the Competitiors’ Packs, which can be downloaded for free at
www.BeautyServe.com.
dates for your diary
This year Scottish NailTechnician of theYear takes place on Sunday 25thMarch at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh as part of the hugely popular Scottish Beauty exhibition, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Later in the season, UK NailTech 2012 takes place at the NEC Birminghamon Sunday 13th andMonday 14thMay as part of the annual BeautyUK event.
Once again both competitions have been devised by Competition Director DeniseWright, and organised by Guild Press Ltd, publishers of Guild Newsmagazine and The Nail File newspaper, and this year each competition has ten categories for you to enter at each of the events.
• TopTech Competition Nails • TopTech NewcomersTip&Overlay • TopTech Like4Like • Salon Nail Challenge • Salon NailArt Challenge • StudentTip&Overlay Challenge • TopTech Photographic NailArt • TopTech Photographic Classic Nail • TopTech Boxed NailArt&Student Boxed NailArt
entering for the first time
If the thought of entering your first nail competition fills you with dread, then don't fear - ourTopTech Newcomer category is designed specifically for techs like you (youmust not
have entered any professional competition before to qualify for this category). You will be challenged to complete a set of 10Tip& Overlay competition nails in two and a half hours, using your chosen system(L&P, Gel or Wrap), with one hand painted with red polish. This category is not for sculpting, nail art or airbrushing. You will be competing alongside other competition newcomers, rather than seasoned pros, making this a great introduction to competing.
Alternatively, if the thought of working under competition conditions for two and a half hours is toomuch for you, then our Salon Nail Challenge category is a perfect alternative for your first competition.Taking just 90minutes, Salon Nail Challenge competitors produce a full set of salon-style nail enhancements in pink and white, with one hand painted red, using any systemand any of the products you would use in the salon.
"This is an ideal introductory into competitions," says DeniseWright. "Anything
goes. The judges are looking for 10 salon standard nail extensions; short tomediumlength nails suitable for everyday wear thatmust complement the model's hands. You can use liquid and powder, UV gel or a wrap systemto complete your set.
"UV lamps and UV topcoatsmay be used with any systemon both hands. Base / top coats and polish drying productsmay be used on both hands. Sculpting forms, natural, white or clear tipsmay be used - just like in a salon."
Novices will be competing againstmore experienced competitors but this is a fun category, and if you're feeling really brave, why not enter both?
new for 2012
Every year we look at developing trends within the nail industry, and, with the help of Competition Director DeniseWright, take inspiration fromcompetitions across the world. Therefore for 2012 we have amalgamated the categories ofTopTechTip&Overlay L&P,Tip &OverlayWrap,Tip&Overlay Gel andTop Tech Sculpt, to create the newTopTech Competition Nails
category.Thismeans that
regardless of which systemof enhancement you prefer to use, you can compete alongside the best in the industry and really test your skills. Choose to work with Gel or L&PTip and Overlay, Sculpt, orTip&OverlayWrap, with one hand painted in red. Ultimately, if you have created a perfect set of Competition Nails the judges shouldn't be able to tell which systemyou have used.
Competitors will have two and a half hours to complete a set of 10 pink and white competition nails, and youmust only use one system, not a combination.
