A galvanic current is a direct, steady, low- voltage and low-amplitude electric current. The electrons and ions are flowing constantly, always in the same direction.
“Galvanic works on the principal of producing chemical substances under the electrodes used in the treatments,” says Angela. “These in turn have specific effects on the skin and underlying tissues. The current applies to the tissues generally increases blood and lymphatic circulation, but it is used more for the specific treatments outlined below.”
According toAngela, there are two ways in which Galvanic treatment can be used – Desincrustation and Iontophoresis.

Desincrustation: This treatment is always worked with the active electrode, the one held by the client is positive. “The system is designed to provide professional treatments for clients who are using homecare products, but who want more outstanding improvements to the skin,” says ClareMuir, head of training at iiaa. “The pulsed electrical current (iontophoresis ) has been found to effect superior penetration compared with the conventional continuous galvanic current which has been used in beauty therapy for the past 100 years. Iontophoresis using Environ’s specially designed intermittent current can give about 400 percent better penetration compared to simple topical application for superior rejuvenation effects.”
