Play for Life at the Downers Grove Park District! Dear Residents,

The Lincoln Learning Center is ringing in the New Year with an open house on January 12th to meet the threeschool and preschool teachers, tour the classrooms and get a jump on registration for the 2012-13 school year. A nurturing environment, stimulating activities, experienced staff and a variety of enrichment programs have made the Lincoln Learning Center one of the premiere preschool programs in the community.

The Lincoln Center is also home to the Downers Grove School of Dance and the Downers Grove School of the Arts. Improv, Glee Club, music lessons and over 50 dance classes provide both youth and adults with a well-rounded and affordable selection of performing arts programming. If Arts or Dance is not your interest area, consider signing up for one of the many youth or adult athletic leagues to stay active this winter, while enjoying friendly competition with friends or co-workers.

Many of the Park District’s spring leagues take place at McCollum Park. As you may know, the park is currently undergoing a major renovation which will bring exciting new amenities to the park users. Renovations are expected to be completed by late summer 2012 and include ball field and soccer field upgrades, pathway improvements, new picnic pavilion, irrigation system replacement, expanded parking, and permanent restrooms.

In addition to new programming and updated facilities, the New Year also brings change with the retirement of one of our long time staff members, Park District Administrator, Dan Cermak, in May of 2012. For 34 years, his leadership, integrity, tireless work ethic and values have provided staff, Board and the community with a path and vision to be leaders in the provision of high quality parks, open space, recreation programs, facilities and services in Downers Grove. The Downers Grove Park District Staff and Board of Commissioners appreciate the legacy Dan leaves to the community and encourage residents to continue to Play for Life at our facilities, parks and programs in 2012.

Sincerely, Bob Gelwicks, Park Board President

The Downers Grove Park District was created in 1946 as a special unit of local government when a group of citizens envisioned the establishment of a park and recreation system to serve area residents. The Park District’s mission is to provide a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open space and natural areas that respond to the articulated needs and desires of residents.
