concert, marrying just a year later in December 2003. They are reportedly very happily married, and it is said that Gwyneth was a great source of comfort to Chris when his parents surprisingly ended their 30-year marriage earlier this year. Yet not only do they famously not talk about each other in public, they go to great lengths to avoid being photographed together, too. There is no way that Gwyneth is going to give a quote on her famous hubby today, but interestingly what she does say suggests that this insistence on secrecy is his choice. “He gets mad if I start to talk about this sort of thing,” she says, frankly. “He just does not like us to talk about anything publicly. We really like to keep our private lives private
and keep all the intricacies of our relationship just for ourselves. Really it’s just about two people trying to forge their paths together in the world and the more support you can get and give to each other, then the

A star in the making
She studied Art History at the University of California in Santa Barbara but dropped out after a year to pursue an acting career.
Her godfather Steven Spielberg is also the godparent of Drew Barrymore.
She famously dated Ben Affleck and was engaged to Hollywood heart-throb Brad Pitt before calling it off in 1997, saying that they felt unable to both pursue their careers and maintain a happy marriage.
Her gushing acceptance speech in 1999 has gone down in history as one of the most memorable Oscar moments (pictured left with her father).
Gwyneth and husband Chris Martin bought their North London home from fellow thespian Kate Winslet.
Her cookbook Notes from My Kitchen Table is out now. Her daughter Apple was named so because the fruit is
sweet, wholesome and biblical, while son Moses was named after a song Chris Martin wrote for her and which appears on Coldplay’s Live 2003 album.

when the children were very small,” she agrees. “And these days I’ll go away for short bursts to do work, which I think is healthy – although I haven’t done a film where I was in every single scene since Apple was born. That would be too much. Making Contagion (Gwyneth is pictured in a scene below) was lots of fun – the script is terrific plus Steven Soderbergh is a dream of a director to work for. But it was nice to come home afterwards. “Work is all very well but my family is my focus these days. They keep my
feet on the ground and everything in perspective. I know how lucky I am to have them and I don’t want to take any of them for granted or miss out on having time with them. And that’s the bottom line.”
