ROWAN ATKINSON CAREER TREE Born in Consett, County Durham, in 1955, Atkinson not only acts but also writes and directs, and is thought to be worth roughly £60m. He married make-up artist Sunetra Sastry in 1990 and they have two children, Lily and Benjamin


1979-1982: Not The Nine O’Clock News Co-wrote and starred in the ‘alternative’ sketch show with Mel Smith, Pamela Stephenson and Griff Rhys Jones.


1982-1989: Blackadder He is one of only three actors to appear in all four series – the others being Tony Robinson and Tim McInnerny – plus several one-off instalments.


1992: Barclaycard He appeared in a series of adverts for the credit card firm as an accident-prone spy.


1994: Four Weddings And A Funeral His character, Father Gerald, gets a round of applause after muddling up the service.


2005: Keeping Mum Plays a vicar so wrapped up in work he fails to notice his wife is having an affair and his housekeeper is a killer!


1983: Never Say Never Again Had his first taste of spy movies when he appeared as the inept British embassy official Nigel Small-Fawcett in this Bond film.


1989-2007: Mr Bean Described as “a child in a grown man’s body”, the character has appeared in 14 half-hour episodes and inspired film and cartoon spin-offs.


1995-1996 The Thin Blue Line He played Inspector Fowler, a stickler for rules and regulations.


2003: Johnny English A bungling spy inspired by his Barclaycard character.
