SANKEYS IBIZA Epic Manchester club launches new Ibiza outpost…
LAST year, the legendary Manchester nightclub Sankeys secured the No.1 spot in our Top 100 Clubs. No small feat, eh? As if one trophy wasn’t enough for them, now they want to see Sankeys established all over the world! Expected to arrive later on this year is Sankeys NYC, but already arrived earlier this summer is Sankeys Ibiza! During the opening weekend, the freshly-minted venue entertained the masses with such selectors as John Dalhbäck, Greg Vickers, Russ Yallop, Jef K, Alex Niggemann, Oliver Lang, Juan Kidd and plenty more. Offering four areas — Basement, Spektrum, Boutique and The Terrace — it may be smaller than the superclubs of Ibiza, but it doesn’t offer any less diversity.
Ferry Corsten will be hosting Tuesday nights with Full On Ferry — an intimate alternative to his dates at Cream. Wednesdays are Carnival night, with hosts Ellesse and Butch running a strictly deep house and tech vibe. And Thank F**k It’s Friday are brought to you by John Dählback and friends. We’ve heard rumours of a bodysonic floor being installed for ultimate island vibrations! Now that the Sankeys franchise is spreading out all over the globe, it seems they’re almost halfway to their goal of creating the Seven Sankeys of the World!
TRANCE, NOW
HERE’S YOUR
DANCE!
TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT!
Tuesdays at Amnesia
EVERY night in Ibiza is like the weekend! And nowhere is this more true than at Amnesia. One of the island’s most loved dance spots, they have reserved Tuesday nights for BIG sounds. With Eric Prydz and the nation’s sweetheart, Annie Mac in as residents — who in turn have invited Crookers, Tiga, Skream, and Adam Beyer to get temperatures rising in the main room, they have managed to cover all bases and tastes.
Make sure not to miss out on Eric Prydz’s exclusive six-hour set on the 9th August: it’s sure to be a dancefloor marathon. And hats off to Annie Mac, who is constantly pushing the best of the UK with her Annie Mac Presents nights.... most notably, the bass-heavy line-ups! Hallelujah! If you like your basslines wobbly, make sure to check out the Rinse FM & FWD night on 2nd August. The original pirate material radio station, home to dubstep, garage and grime, is in attendance with its offshoot night FWD and is bringing UK funky’s first lady Katy B, Skream, Plastician and DJ Zinc. Expect plenty of swagger. We can already feel our ribcages rattling…

Armin Van Buuren launches into Space
VOTED the No.1 DJ by you guys four years in a row, the world’s favourite DJ has confirmed a residency at the world’s favourite club, Space. Throughout the season, Armin will be manning the decks at the Wednesday night institution Be. Some see the arrival of trance at Space as big news, but to Armin, it seemed only natural. “I’ve been a resident at Amnesia for seven years and one year in Eden with Godskitchen,” Armin says. “As a DJ, I constantly try to evolve and bring new elements to my show. Recently, I have been travelling with my nine-hour concept show called Armin Only: Mirage, and ever since then, I’ve been trying to change my set-up for my normal sets as well. I’ve invested a lot in creating visuals for my sets and live performances. It’s a new path for me in my career, and Space really is the perfect venture for my new show set-up.”
The musical trends in Ibiza ebb and flow like the waves on Playa d’en Bossa, but right now, it seems that more than ever before, musical genres are cross-pollinating. “There is a global trend in a combining of house and trance right now. Some call it “trouse”, which I think is a horrible name for it!” If you haven’t had the chance to see his Mirage show, peep it on YouTube in order to prepare yourself. An epic live show to match his epic status.
