MTV is back and BIGGER than ever!

THOSE crazy cats that first put pictures to music and beamed it directly into our homes are now revolutionising

the way we listen to music on the island. With colossal headliners and some impressive Ibiza debuts from the

glitterati of rap, pop and dance music, MTV are not holding back! From 1st July to 2nd September, they appropriate Amnesia for their I Want My MTV parties. The opening party boasts the one-and-only Doggfather, aka Snoop, making his first appearance on the island. Keeping him company are expert selectors Felix Da Housecat, Layo & Bushwacka!, Magda and Mar-T. We could tell you all about the individual acts, but we’ll just let the names do the talking: Primal Scream, Richie Hawtin as Plastikman, Duran Duran, Mark Ronson, Marco Carola, Tiga, Erol Alkan, M.A.N.D.Y, James Holden, Audiofly and Ibiza’s very own Alfredo. We feel like kids in a sweet shop! If you want to learn more — and win a trip back to Ibiza to check it out — flick to page 63.

THE HOTEL THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

Ushuaia’s new venue unveiled!

THE old Ushuaia is gone. Bye-bye rustic beach parties. Hello new, glamorous, private pool parties and big star line-ups. The Cadenza Vagabundos kicked things off at the opening, and now the Swedes, Defected, Dennis Ferrer and the Martinez Brothers keep up the momentum. But besides the parties, don’t forget the hotel offers a five-star service, with private jacuzzi parties, a 24-hour beauty salon (so if you come back from Space at 6am, just nip in and they can blow-dry your hair and re-do your make-up), a private club, a sushi restaurant, beach bar and a well- hidden private pool that pumps classical music out beneath the water’s surface. Can’t afford the premium rates but want to be involved? You and your friends can rent a day room at the pool’s edge, so you can have your own space and garden overlooking the activities.... And who said money can’t buy happiness?

THE MIGHTY MARKUS SCHULZ

Schulz plays Space in prep for his album arrival

BET you’ll never believe this... but Markus

Schulz used to be a breakdancer! We kid you not! He and his friends used to break on

street corners, and one of his favourite songs was Man Parrish’s ‘Boogie Down Bronx’. It

was at a party in a basement, hosted by his breaking crew, where he first got a taste for DJing. The exhilaration he felt behind the decks was addictive, and now he’s one of

trance’s biggest names... playing rooms a bit bigger than a basement.

The mighty Markus will be bringing his

sound to the masses at Be on 20th July in Space. After the success of his last album

under the Dakota name, he is back for round two — ‘Thoughts Become Things II’, also on Armada. You can preview three of his tracks online: ‘I’m Where It Went Wrong’, ‘Katowise’ and ‘Tears’. He’s already dedicated one of his location-themed compilations to the island.

With such a sweet declaration of love, we, the island, want Markus to know that the feeling is mutual!

I WANT KANDI!

HAVING already supplied us with numerous Ibiza and chill-out compilations, and running the Saturday nights at Es Paradis, it was about time the Kandi crew brought us a pre- party joint. New to San An and right next to the Egg Roundabout, Hed Kandi is already proving popular, its bright lights looking every bit as delicious as their name suggests. Every night is soundtracked by their trademark variety of feel-good house, and they have a full team of professional dancers to get the party started. Not only perfect for a night- time soiree, but it is within kissing distance of San An beach, so you can pop in for a little daytime refreshment and check out their shop, which sells all their latest releases, merchandise and tickets to their parties. Don’t mind if we do!
