THE LAST WORD OLIVER LANG

DJ/producer Oliver Lang has the enviable ability of holding down three residencies — Bora Bora, Gatecrasher and Sankeys — whilst still being out there on the party circuit showing the rest of us how it’s done. He has an unstoppable enthusiasm and energy for producing and playing rip-roaring tech house, and he also has a second home on the island. Does life get much better?!

Last beautiful sunset you saw in Ibiza? “Well the last one, I was sat outside Savannahs with the Gatecrasher crew. Gatecrasher is one of my residencies back in the UK, so we’ve become really good mates and always have a right laugh. Plus it’s my favourite bar on the sunset strip, Javier always really looks after me… he makes THE best gin and tonics.”

Last Ibiza club experience? “It was for the new Sankeys Ibiza opening party in Playa D’en Bossa. This was hugely special to me. Having grown up in Manchester, Sankeys has always been an institution close to my heart. It was one of the reasons I became a DJ and I have on occasion played there over the years. Subsequently, I’ve become good mates with Dave Vincent [owner of Sankeys] and then this year he made me his club resident! I was over the moon!”

Last bar you went to? “Bora Bora. I’ve been resident there for over 10 years, so it’s like my second home. The staff have all become like family to me.”

¿El último bar al que has ido? “Bora Bora.

Last person you kissed? “I’m a gentleman, I never tell! Actually I can, it was probably The Stafford Brothers, these guys are crazy DJs from Oz, we’ve been friends for years. It always gets a bit messy when we catch up, we have a solid bromance, then, erm, my cat Mozza and most probably the floor last night!”

Last beach you went to? “Other than Bora Bora it would probably be Gecko Beach in Formentera, I love going over there, as sometimes Ibiza can get too much, so it’s nice to have a break away for a few days and totally chillax. The Gecko Hotel is wicked and serves amazing Mojitos!”

Last track you would play to end the party? “Guy Gerber ‘Stoppage Time’ on Bedrock Records, for so many reasons. I first heard this in DC10, Cirillo played it and it totally blew me away. A mate of mine was in the DJ box so I did my homework, rang him and had it the next day. I play it as my last track quite a lot, as it’s

not so well-known in less upfront clubs and everyone’s always like, ‘What the fuck is that?’ when I drop it. In short, it’s sex on a stick, a USB stick, that is!”

What is your lasting image of Ibiza? “My former self! Haha, no, I’d probably say the feeling when I arrive at the start of the season and all the friends you meet along the way. Anywhere I go in the world, I always bump into someone I’ve met in Ibiza. Good times!”

¡Buenos momentos!”.

Famous last words... “‘Just the one’. Why I’d ever say that is beyond me, it never happens, in fact why does anyone say that?”
