activities on offer compliment the beauty of the spot as well.
SOUTH
SA CALENTE A smaller and more secluded beach than most, Sa Calente is a highly popular spot with locals — always a good sign when those in the know choose to spend their days there. With a highly-regarded seafood restaurant on offer and a stunning setting near the high cliffs of the south, you can spend a day here enjoying the views, clear water and chilled-out atmosphere.
PLAYA D’EN BOSSA One of the better-known beaches on the island, Playa D’en Bossa is highly popular with Ibiza’s party people. With a variety of beach bars — ranging from Bora Bora with its oft-found crowd of pre-clubbers on the sand outside — to the newer Ushuaia, popular with the wealthier party crowd and offering up sun-loungers and full-sized beds in which to enjoy a few cocktails, the beach itself is by far one of the largest and most popular. The water can be a little murky nearer the Ibiza town side, but if you venture up the shoreline and past the bars, clear water, soft golden sands and seclusion can be found.
ES CAVALLET Popular with the island’s gay scene, Es Cavallet is also a well-known nudist beach. With a lively bar and restaurant on the edge, their parties are sometimes crazy and will be belting out tunes all day. The upbeat atmosphere here is electric and the perfect compliment to a long day’s sunbathing. One of the lesser- known, but more unmissable beaches on the island, its gorgeous sea and sand dunes add a beautiful setting for its cool, friendly crowd to hang out.
CALA JONDAL Home to famous beach bar and restaurant Blue Marlin, Cala Jondal attracts the island’s playboys in swarms. It might be a beach of pebbles and less comfy than most, but it’s one of the few remaining conservation areas on the island, and it’s utterly stunning. It’s a perfect place to set up camp for a day, and to enjoy a wide selection of cocktails and to daydream about your perfect yacht.
LAS SALINAS Reaching near-infamous status amongst the island’s beautiful/rich crowd, Salinas is a long golden beach dotted with lively bars and restaurants. Popular with DJs, models and island stalwarts, you will always find an upbeat vibe, thanks to the quality music dished out by the aforementioned bars, and with clear, shallow waters, Salinas is one of the nicest beaches.

WEST
CALA BASSA There are boats that regularly run from Cala Bassa to San Antonio that do not cost too much, and the beach is reliably busy and highly popular with families. There are water-sports available from the left-hand side of the shoreline, and a couple of snack bars and shaded areas around. Good for a long day out with the kids, though less fun for the party crowd.
CALA CONTA With some of the cleanest waters on the island, and unspoilt views of the famous Ibiza sunset, Cala Conta is one of Ibiza’s most beautiful locations. Like Cala Bassa, regular boat services are available here from other points on the island, as are buses and organised excursions. There are restaurants lining the beach with DJs keeping the music flowing, and although it can be busy at peak season, Cala Conta is large enough to host its crowds. Keep an eye out for the small nudist cove located at the end of the beach.
CALA D’HORT A smaller stretch of sand than most, Cala D’Hort is a chilled-out, family-friendly beach close to Es Vedra, a highly magnetic and mysterious rock located close to Ibiza’s shoreline. Keeping the locals coming back annually, the beach is only accessible by car and a steep walk down the hills awaits the visitor. Its selection of restaurants will keep seafood lovers happy, and a calm, serene vibe will heal many a heavy head after a night at the island’s clubs.
PUNTA GALERA An amazing formation of rocks leading into the sea, Punta Galera isn’t so much a nice sandy beach as an unquestionable beauty spot. The spectacular arrangement of rocks and cliffs makes it a popular location with cliff jumpers, and the deep waters here make it an excellent choice for snorkelling fans. It can be hard to reach, though — expect some serious clambering and climbing — but once you arrive, you will understand the hype. A more interesting day out for adventurous travellers.
CALA VEDELLA Its wide set, white sandy beaches and selection of restaurants and bars make the resort of Cala Vedella a popular place for any visitor to the island. With a long, shallow depth and amazingly clear water, the beach is unquestionably stunning and offers enough activities to keep the most restless sunbather occupied. Buses run here regularly and the drive is well signposted if you are renting your own car — look for signs from San Antonio and San Jose.
