to play there to be honest!” Fast-forward a decade, and Jack Revill, complete with facial hair, proof of age and a bag full of records, is finally being permitted past the bouncers to play Come Together alongside Annie Mac, Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Roska and Untold - some of the UK’s finest.

This man’s musical upbringing started young. After a week’s work experience in a record shop, Glasgow’s revered Rubadub, he was kept on to sweep floors. Paid in vinyl, his first paycheque was Model 500’s ‘The Chase’. Now he runs the club night and label Numbers, who earlier this month released the highly-anticipated Jamie xx solo release, ‘Far Nearer’. “We just decided to drop it as a surprise. No pre-orders, announcements or anything. It was in danger of over-hyping itself.” Having just played Rockness and Sonar and with a host more festivals coming up, Jackmaster is a go-to party DJ, spinning anything from techno to house, garage, UK funky, hip-hop and even a little Prince. Despite that, he’s been aligned with the movement we’re not supposed to call UK bass/future garage/post dubstep - a sound which is still a bit off-radar for Ibiza. But just look at his fellow DJs on the 5th August at Space, or the line-up hosted by FWD & Rinse FM at Amnesia (Skream, Katy B, Plastician) and it’s evident that the times are a-changing. “Aye, exactly, that sound is creeping into Ibiza. Plus a lot of UK DJs are making and playing more housey music, so it makes sense. UK funky, garage - they all sound like house to me. To quote that old cliché: house isn’t a sound, house is a feeling.”

ast time I was in Ibiza I was 14, on a family holiday. I looked just old enough to buy beer so I sat outside Space, drinking, listening to people like Pete Tong and Slam, just wishing I could go in. It’s a total dream come true to get

LORY D ‘Strange Days Vol. 1’ Numbers “Italian legend and professional heartbreaker Lory D makes his debut on Numbers after gracing us with two-and-a-half EPs on our preceding label Wireblock. The first volume in a trilogy of EPs entitled ‘Strange Days’ holds two master classes in acid and the innovation and progression there of. Genius.”

FUNKINEVEN ’Roland Jam’ Eglo “Stomping 120bpm analogue house music from Funkineven on the Eglo label, which is of course home to Alex Nut, Floating Points, Fatima and more. When I quizzed him over this track on Twitter and asked him if it was all analogue, he replied: ‘200%’. That’s just how we like it, isn’t it?”

BLAWAN ’Getting Me Down’ White Label “First heard en-masse during a Ben UFO stand-in for Oneman on Rinse FM back in January, ‘Getting Me Down’ quickly became one of the most anticipated tracks of the moment, with only a select few DJs privileged with an upfront mp3. Fast-forward six months, and it’s finally released as a limited-edition one-sided vinyl-only release. This track was the catalyst in the recent much-deserved hype over this young producer, as well as the current spate of R&B-sampling UK house tracks. 100% dynamite.”

DEADBOY ’HERE’ Numbers “Deadboy’s first full release since ‘If U Want Me’ in early 2010, and it was well worth the wait. The south London boy sticks to his promise of never making the same record twice, and rolls classic disco, UK funky and even table tennis influences into this three-track EP. I just can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next.”

MACHINEDRUM ’Alarmaaa’ LuckyMe “One of the exclusive tracks from my ‘FabricLive 57’ CD and a standard in the sets of Rustie and Hudson Mo gets a limited-edition white-label release on LuckyMe later this month. Also known as ‘La Bomba’, ‘Alarmaaa’ has one of the biggest drops I’ve heard all year and absolutely wrecks the joint wherever it’s played. Pull-ups every time, as standard.”

Siempre funciona”.
