irquick began trading as a compressed air engineering


company in May 1974 and quickly became established with British Rail in the late 1970s, replacing life-expired compressors on the Eastern Region.


As this work subsided, they were invited to look at other projects – initially building chemical pump rigs for train wash plants but ex- panding to the maintenance and repair of wash plants, fuelling systems, lavatory fl ushing aprons, CET systems and specialist design and build of bowsers for coolant, oil and windscreen top-up.

erman company Windhoff has launched a new modular series of road-rail shunting vehi- cles (ZRW series) for interdepart- mental shunting operations in railway depots and workshops, as well as industrial, corporate and port railways. One of the main du- ties of these versatile vehicles is intended to be their use at under- fl oor wheel lathe facilities (UFL) or for train washing systems.


The new vehicle series considers ergonomic aspects such as cabin access, cabin design, ease of ser- vice and maintenance. The high- quality vehicles cater to the user’s demands for maximum fl exibility,


durability and effi ciency. Another key aspect is the low life-cycle costs.


The ZRW-series will be available as a Diesel Hydrostatic (DH) pow- ered vehicle, as an emission-free, battery-driven vehicle (AEM) and with a hybrid diesel/battery drive system (DE). The towing capacity will range from 100T to 2,000T and the modular arrangement al- lows for highly individual, opera- tion-oriented solutions.

With a sound knowledge base of supply needs and maintenance practices within the railway in- dustry, Airquick has increased yet further the range of products and services it offers and the move to purpose-built premises in 2006 has enhanced the maintenance and assembly side of the business and provides increased offi ce facil- ities to meet the demanding nature of the industry.


Airquick has the specialised PTS- trained staff and resources to offer a nationwide range of depot ser- vices including: carriage wash ma- chines; Controlled Emission Toilet (CET) systems including tanking water dispensing, permanent and temporary systems; complete fuel, lubricant and coolant dispensing installations; waste oil and coolant recovery systems; potable water


dispensing systems, both for sta- tion platforms and depot servicing facilities and overhaul/modifi ca- tion of carriage wash machine & piped services.


The company also provides com- prehensive maintenance and ser- vicing contracts for all of the above systems, encompassing 24-hour reactive callout work for the train operating companies, Network Rail and London Underground.


Airquick has the expertise to de- sign and build systems from the ground up, all in-house. The com- pany does not employ outside contractors for any part of their systems, other than for fabrica- tions, buildings and minor utili- ties. This allows them to be totally in control of the whole project and provide a knowledgeable backup team for fast and effi cient service from initial appraisal through the Form A & B design process, pro- curement, build and site installa- tion to fi nal commissioning and handover.


An ISO 9001 company, Airquick is also a fully audited Link-up Ap- proved Supplier to Network Rail. They are also members of the British Compressed Air Society, and are an NIC/ EIC Accredited Electrical Installer.
