Organisational Behaviour Organisations are not organisations without people. It is through creativity, vision, efforts and interaction of organisational members that goods are produced, services delivered, profits made, government targets met, budgets adhered to, shareholders satisfied, and so on. That is to say, people make organisational processes happen. This module focuses attention on the issues and challenges associated with how people behave in organised contexts – both individually and in teams – while realising that this always happens within a wider social, political, economic and cultural context.

Please note that this is a very small selection of the modules available to study. Please visit our website for more information: www.essex.ac.uk/ebs.

How will I be taught

and assessed? Teaching combines traditional lecturing with interactive small-group work. We also use online teaching materials to supplement face-to-face teaching, ensure

easy access to learning resources, and enable interactivity even in large group teaching situations. Throughout, our focus on critical analysis and dialogue aims to facilitate your active engagement with your studies, allowing scope for the development of transferable analytical, research, group-work and presentation skills, as well as subject knowledge. The content of modules is designed to generate interdisciplinary learning based on a foundation of business economics, sociology, management, information and communications technology, and marketing.

Assessment is varied and incorporates a range of methods including traditional end-of-year examinations, essays, case-study analysis, group presentations and in-class tests. Due to the nature of the subject, much of the assessment of management topics is discursive, rather than quantitative, allowing you to develop your analytical and written communication skills to a high level. Your final degree class is based on your results in the second and third years.
