VTG

VTG Rail UK is delighted to be returning as sponsor of the Railfreight Excellence of the Year Award for a third year running. As Europe’s leading wagon hire and rail

logistics company, VTG is ideally placed within the industry to support a category dedicated to recognising achievements in rail freight.

The company received some awards of its

own when it picked up two of the top prizes at the Rail Freight Group Awards, where it was named the Support Service Provider of the Year. As the largest independent

wagon provider in the UK, VTG can offer its customers a large portfolio, with the widest range of wagons, as well as extensive experience and expertise for maintaining and modifying wagon fleets. Furthermore, it has developed schemes, such as sale and leaseback, to better meet the needs of its client base. VTG also achieved the runner up spot in

the Technical Development category, which it also won the previous year, for the biomass wagons it developed with its partners GB Railfreight, WH Davis and Lloyds Register. The bespoke wagons are the first of their

kind, featuring fully automated top and bottom doors, allowing pelletised biomass to be transported in optimum condition, and loading and unloading to take place with no operator present. At the end of last year, VTG achieved

another notable success with the introduction of a new generation of bitumen tank wagons. The new fleet was delivered to Total Bitumen in December and includes a range of features that will enable them to transport and process bitumen more efficiently than with previous wagon designs.

they play in providing a smooth service for the travelling public. It requires considerable effort, both in the public eye and behind the scenes, for the train operators to keep their trains running efficiently through the ever- changing conditions that confront them, and we believe that these awards are a superb way to demonstrate our respect for the work they do. ‘The year 2010 has also been an exciting year for SSP, as we were honoured with two prestigious National Training Awards. These recognised our outstanding contribution and commitment to training, learning and development in the workplace, and our internal Discovery Management and Service Style training programmes. ‘The National Training Awards inspire and

encourage UK industry to invest in training and development as a route to achieving outstanding organisational and individual success. To win such an award twice is

recognition of best practice and provides a benchmark for standards of excellence in training in the UK. ‘We hope and believe that the Rail Business

Awards play the same role in driving standards of excellence within the rail industry and inspire winning performance from everyone involved.’ SSP operates more than 200 international,

national, local and speciality brands, catering for a wide range of tastes. Brands that SSP owns within the rail portfolio include well-known favourites such as Upper Crust, Camden Food Co, Millie’s Cookies, Whistlestop, The Pasty Shop, and Caffe Ritazza, as well as operating franchises for Burger King and M&S Simply Food. An exciting new brand, BreadBox, has just opened in Manchester Piccadilly station, with further units to open soon. For further information about SSP, please visit www.foodtravelexperts.com
