Station Excellence of the year

extensive refurbishment and improvement. The station has seen every aspect – appearance, facilities and information – improved to enhance the experience and service provided to FGW’s customers. Access, information, availability of ticket

machines, safety and security have all been upgraded as FGW keeps its promises to improve the travelling environment.

KING’S CROSS ST PANCRAS UNDERGROUND

The massive and complex redevelopment of King’s Cross St. Pancras Underground station has been ongoing since 2000. Phase Two of the development began in 2006 and its core elements – the new northern ticket hall and associated passenger tunnels – were opened in November 2009, effectively doubling the size of the station. This project has eliminated congestion

and overcrowding (and, subsequently, station closures) at King’s Cross St. Pancras – one of the busiest rail stations in Europe, a key transport hub and gateway to London. During the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it will be one of the key access points for spectators travelling to the Olympic Park.
