AS I TOLD the salesman my requirements he promptly handed me the Olympus Mju Tough 3000. He told me: “This would suit your needs as it’s water resistant up to three metres and 1.5m shockproof so you could easily knock it around and it will be fine. It’s actually on sale now, costing £129.99 with a saving of £90 as it was originally £219.99. It’s 12MP and has a 3x optical zoom.” I enquired how easy it was to download the photos and whether it was Mac and PC compatible. He said: “The camera uses a standard SD Memory card so it should be easy to download your photos. You could even take the card straight to a store like Boots and have them print straight from the card. If you want to look at your photos or HD video on the camera you

can use the mini HDMI port to watch it back on your HDTV without having to take it off the card first.” From the literature I was provided with, I found the camera shoots in JPEG, EXIF, PIM, DPS, DPOF and records QuickTime Motion JPEG video at maximum resolution of 1280 x 720 at 30 fps. These formats are both accepted by Mac and PC software. I was pleased with the recommendation – the camera met my needs and could be used for holidays in the snow and at the beach. The salesman was knowledgeable and offered simple jargon-free advice. I would have liked a comparison, but was satisfied with the result.
