Elks Drug Awareness Program


u GREEN VALLEY, AZ, Lodge members, accompanied by Elroy the Elk and Border Patrol Agent Joseph Creer, attended a first- through fourth-grade assembly at the Continental School and discussed the importance of staying drug free with the 260 children there. Sierra Vista, AZ, Lodge members distributed drug awareness materials to 75 children who took part in the lodge’s Soccer Shoot contest.


Santa Barbara, CA, Lodge members honored eighth-grade student James Hale in a ceremony at the lodge for winning their Drug Awareness Essay Contest and gave him a certificate and a $100 check.


Simi Valley, CA, Lodge members, with the help of scouts from lodge-spon- sored Cub Scout Pack Nos. 3633, 3642,

and 3643 and lodge-sponsored Girl Scout Troop Nos. 60060 and 60128, distributed bags containing drug awareness material to about 600 spectators at the Simi Valley Days Parade. Lodge members, with the help of Elroy the Elk, also distributed drug awareness information to about 1,400 spectators at the lodge’s Walk in the Park Car Show.


Framingham, MA, Lodge members honored the winners of their Drug Awareness Poster Contest in a ceremony at the David Mindess


School. Lodge members awarded savings bonds worth $100 and $50 and restaurant gift certificates worth $20 to each of the first-, second-, and third- place winners, respectively. Winners included Benjamin Ames and Kath- erine Scherer (first place), Emily Finnegan and Nimish Garg (second place), and Madeline Graves and Alec Mace (third place). Katherine also finished first in the state contest and was awarded a mountain bike by the Massachusetts Elks Association. All told, 600 students attended the awards ceremony.
