Woodward, OK, Lodge donated more than 2,500 items of nonperishable food to the local food pantry to be distrib- uted to needy families. The lodge gathered the donations by admitting children under 12 to the 80th annual Woodward Elks Rodeo for free with a donation of two items of food. The lodge also donated $300 to the pantry to pay for milk and other perishable food items.

In other news, the lodge raised $1,000 for its Sickness and Relief Fund through the sale of T-shirts.


Southern Pines, NC, Lodge donated a $500 ENF Gratitude Grant to Snack Pack Pals, a program that provides packages of food to people with disabilities and senior citizens who are unable to leave their homes.


Bismarck-Mandan, ND, Lodge members celebrated the lodge’s 100th anniversary with a banquet and dance, which included a slide show of historical photos, a lecture by a local historian, a visit from a Teddy Roosevelt impersonator, and live musical entertainment.


In other news, the lodge held a Children’s Safety Day, which about 200 children and about 200 parents attended, and gave attendees the opportunity to visit with local emer- gency services personnel.


Van Wert, OH, Lodge donated $150 to the Van Wert City Fire Department to support its Firefighter Phil Safety Program, which teaches children about fire safety.


Claremore, OK, Lodge held its sixth annual Christmas in July fund-raiser,

Keizer, OR, Lodge donated the use of its lodge facilities to the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps Oregon, Iron Side Division for a Car Wash fund-raiser.


Newport, OR, Lodge members raised $400 in donations at their annual picnic. Of the funds, $40 was donated to the state major project, the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic at the Casey Eye Institute, and $360 went to the lodge charitable fund.


Bellefonte, PA, Lodge members staffed a booth at the Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair and through the sale of raffle tickets raised $2,500 for the state major project, the PA Elks Home Service Program, which provides in-home therapy to children with special needs. In other news, the lodge held a Gun Raffle fund-raiser and raised more than $11,000 for lodge charities.


Clearfield, PA, Lodge donated $1,900 to the Elks National Foundation.


Franklin, PA, Lodge held a Charity Chicken Barbecue, which 85 people attended, and raised more than $700 for the state major project, the PA Elks Home Service Program, which provides in-home therapy to children with special needs. The lodge also held an Alternate Shot Doubles Golf Tournament and raised more than $600 for the Elks National Foundation.


Bristol County, RI, Lodge held the 18th annual imPOSSIBLE DREAM


Bike Ride, in which more than 400 riders participated, and raised more than $18,000, including a $2,000 donation from the lodge. The imPOSSIBLE DREAM is a charitable organization that fulfills the wishes of chronically ill children.


In other news, the lodge held its


first Ride for Independence Motor- cycle Run and raised more than $4,500 to benefit Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island, which provides job training and other employment- related services to people with disabilities.


Rhode Island State Elks Association held its annual Special Needs Picnic and treated 450 children and adults with disabilities to a barbecue lunch, games, music, and dancing.


Columbia, TN, Lodge donated more than 110 phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers, which sells donated phones and uses the proceeds to buy prepaid phone cards for US troops serving overseas. Each donated phone buys 60 minutes of prepaid phone time.


Cookeville-Putnam County, TN, Lodge donated several cases of juice boxes and snack crackers, several reams of paper, and a number of stuffed toy animals and craft items to the Upper Cumberland Child Advo- cacy Center for the use of the children served by the center.


Crockett, TX, Lodge donated $1,000 to the Houston/Trinity County Children’s Advocacy Center, also known as Kalin’s Center, to support the services it offers to abused children.


Denison, TX, and Sherman, TX, Lodges held their annual joint Soccer Shoot competition, in which eight children competed. All eight children were given certificates, and the lodges provided lunch to all contestants, parents, and volunteers who attended the event.


Auburn, WA, Lodge held a Coin Box Dinner fund-raiser and raised nearly $3,300 for the state major project, Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children, which provides in-home therapy at no charge to children with special needs. ■
