North Central District, CA, lodge members visited the Veterans Home of California, Yountville, and treated 300 veterans to a barbecue lunch and a commemoration of the 65th anniversary of VJ Day. Kissimmee, FL, Lodge members visited the Orlando VA Medical Center and treated 36 veterans to bingo games and refreshments.
St. Augustine, FL, and Mandarin/St. Johns, FL, Lodges, along with several veterans service organizations, held a Veterans Stand Down at the St. Augustine Lodge and treated 25 homeless veterans and about 200 other homeless people to hot showers, haircuts, hot meals, clothing, sleeping bags, backpacks, and bicycles. Repre- sentatives of the American Red Cross, the Homeless Coalition, and several government agencies gave the veter- ans medical attention and informed them of the job placement and housing services available to them.
Rancho Cordova, CA, Lodge donated a motorized wheelchair to US Army veteran Charles Hanson, who has Parkinson’s dis- ease. The donation, which was made at the request of the Jackson, CA, Lodge, was made through the lodge’s Catch the Spirit Program, which supports veterans and military families with emergency needs. The program has re- ceived a $10,000 ENF Impact Grant for each of the past three years. Pictured with veteran Hanson is Jackson Lodge ER Stephen Beach.
