Montrose, CO, Lodge, with the assistance of scouts from lodge- sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 491, held a Flag Retirement Ceremony and respectfully disposed of three worn and damaged US flags.


Westminster, CO, Lodge donated 62 wooden wind calmer sculptures to area nursing homes, individuals, and Laradon Hall, the state major project, which provides educational, voca- tional, and residential services to children and adults with developmen- tal disabilities. (A wind calmer is a spiral sculpture that turns when the wind blows.)


Cass County, MO, Lodge members gave their First Responder of the Year Award to each of five outstanding individuals from local fire and emergency medical services units during a lodge ceremony, which 150 people attended. The ceremony was held during National Patriotism Week and included a solemn commemoration of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Lodge members presented two of the awards to emergency responders at their stations because they were on call. In related news, the lodge held a National Patriotism Week Children’s Safety Carnival,


which more than 500 children and their parents attended. Lodge members treated attendees to food, live music, carnival games, and face painting and also gave them the opportunity to meet members of local highway patrol, police, and fire departments. During the event, the lodge raised $1,700 in donations for the Food for Growing Minds Program, which provides needy children with backpacks full of food on the weekends to ensure their access to healthy meals at home.


Longmont, Loveland, and Lamar Lodges assisted the members of the Fort Morgan Lodge in overseeing the event. The lodge provided a $50 prize to each of the top contestants in five age-groups (senior boys, senior girls, junior boys, junior girls, and little wranglers) each day and also pre- sented a $50 prize to the contestant in each age-group with the top overall score. The overall winners included Senior Boy Jeb Buller, Senior Girl Shiloh Wertz, Junior Boy Chadron Walters, Junior Girl Nicole Seder- strom, and Little Wrangler Seth Anderson. The lodge also awarded a gift certificate each day for a new pair of boots to each of the “hard luck” contestants who fared poorly or were injured and gave a gift card to a ranch and home supply store to each of three winners of a drawing. Winning contestants also earned points toward eligibility in the National Little Britches Finals Rodeo, which will be held in July 2011.

Manchester, CT, Lodge held a Pasta Dinner fund-raiser, which nearly 600 people attended, and raised almost $13,000 to benefit the families of victims of a local workplace shooting.


Cape Henlopen, DE, Lodge members attended a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Brendon Zehner, of lodge-sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 2540, and gave him a certificate and a US flag. For his Eagle Scout Project, Zehner built benches and placed them along the Breakwater Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park. (Continued on page 22)


Edgewater Park, NJ, Lodge held its 32nd annual Pig Roast for Special Children, which about 260 people attended, and treated attendees to games, face painting, lunch, and door prizes. Pictured are attendees Daniel Kellaway and Leila Fedder.
