Children’s wear choices: lively and growing

PenCarrie puts the spotlight first on latest additions to its children's wear collection. These include JH071B Kids Jog Pants from AWDis, Skinni Minni’s SM61 Dance Pants, Regatta’s RG245 Kids Uproar Soft Shell Jacket; Fruit of the Loom’s SS21B Kids Value Long Sleeve T shirt; Tombo Teamwear’s TL69B Kids Piped Track Pants; and, from Canterbury, the CN60B Kids Long Sleeve Cold Base Layer and CN90B Kids Stadium Pants. “All the new styles are selling well as they are natural complements to other childrenswear styles we stock,” comments Andrea Charteris, PenCarrie’s customer services manager. “For example, the jog and dance pants are the perfect complement to the sweats, hoodies and zoodies that are so popular in this market. “Teamwear for kids is another high volume seller, and not just because of schools," continues Andrea. Most sports clubs offer junior memberships; and there are lots of locally organised sports activities with football the most popular amongst boys. “Base layers, especially cold base layers that keep kids warm, are fast becoming essential kit for kids. The kids also like the way the club’s name appears on the sleeve, it makes them feel professional,” she adds. “With the World Cup taking place this year we also expect sales to soar of long-standing favourites in

Tour Collection’s country-flag inspired range, particularly as there are styles for all the family to wear in unison.” Kids’ styles include the Tour Collection TR01B Country T Shirt and TR63B Country Cap. “Generally speaking, T shirts and caps will always be souvenir favourites with kids,” comments Andrea. “These and other items such as gymsacs sell in volume, for example as promotional merchandise linked to children’s theatre and television shows touring the UK. They also sell well as holiday souvenirs and are popular at seaside resorts.” As well as the new SS21B, the long-sleeved version of Fruit of the Loom’s SS6B, there are many other kids' quality tees available from Gildan, Jerzees, Hanes and Skinni Minni, plus an organic cotton style from Okarma. The choice of colours for kids’ tees is necessarily vast and PenCarrie makes a point of maintaining high levels of stock across all styles. Similarly, all 36 colours for BagBase’s best-selling BG10 Gymsac are stocked. “At the top end of the holiday market, kids’ versions of cult casualwear for adults, such as rugby shirts, are increasingly being offered by independent retailers. They recognise that many visitors find it essential to own ‘Salcombe 2010’ or similarly

Demand for promotional childrenswear is on the up

With more and more of our younger generation taking up classes and sports at the tender age of just three the need for promotional garments is on the up. Kids love their sportswear and as with any new addition to the collection the suspense was mounting this year as Finden+Hales unveiled the new LV892 kid’s Team Overtop. The fabric make up is 100% polyester but with the sleeves benefiting from a satin lining for a lightweight and extremely comfortable fit. A simple quarter zip with flared collar features alongside white shoulder and side piping for a contemporary look. Both have three of the same colours, washed black, washed grey marl and washed pink with the washed sky blue on the baby version being understandably substituted for a washed navy on the kids. These hoodies both feature the iconic kangaroo pouch pocket and a brushed effect on the inside for extra added comfort. Regatta Uproar Softshell jackets are an excellent seller here at Prestige Leisure and continuing on the success they bring us a kids' version in 2010. The RG245 is based on the same styling and design as the adults featuring a hem drawcord, wind resistant fabric and a durable water resistant finish. The difference is found on the pocket and back seams where Regatta added reflective safety piping making this lovely little jacket very appealing to the schoolwear market.
