AJS‘s new frame hits the big time

AJS Embroidery Services were demonstrating the prowess of their Tajima machines on a 220,000 stitch piece using a new 1.2 metre frame. Called the Xpanter, the frame is mainly used for embroidering Irish dance costumes, explained Alan Graham, AJS's distributor for Ireland. "It's been around for a while, but we have never shown it before," said Graham. Other customers have been quick to spot the potential of the Xpanter. "We have one customer who's using it for Christening gowns. She does very fine white on white, cream on cream Celtic designs," continued Graham. "It can also be used for priest's vestments or

iGEM, the UK's exclusive distributor of Permaboss "decoration alternatives" launched the exciting new Permaboss NGL 3D embroidery laser at Printwear & Promotion LIVE! The bridge laser alternative offers stunning multimedia 3D laser designs in less time than ever before. According to Permaboss's Robert Harbauer: "The average plotter laser can do 15 to 20 pieces an hour, but because of the system we have here for scanning, we can do up to 210 pieces an hour. "As a company we guarantee that the customer is 100% profitable in 90 days or less or we would pay the difference. We haven’t had to do that in 10 years because the customer has always been able to recoup their investment." The Permaboss NGL will make light work of appliqué and can laser logos in the blink of an eye. Laser etching can also be achieved on all kinds of promotional materials, in just three seconds. Says Harbauer: "The number one thing about the laser is that embroidery has stayed the same for the last 20 years and the problem now is that the market needs small volume instantly and there’s no way to combine the techniques that are going to make it profitable. "So a big thing is applique and the traditional way was to cut individual parts and make a mark on the T shirt with sewing a line and then hand placing this. The hard part was to get it in register. And it’s not profitable when the sewing machines stop and it’s certainly not profitable when you’re doing 24 of them."

One of the appliqué designs produced using the Permaboss NGL.

He continues: "With the appliqué technique, you can throw on a large swatch of material, instantly doing the running stitch, then etch it under the laser. It will do what no human hand can do and it’s precise each time." The process takes three or four seconds. That’s unprecedented because you can now make way above the industry standard income. You can make £200 to £300 an hour easily." The machine attracted a lot of interest from decorators. "Wicking sportswear material is difficult to embroider because it puckers. And it doesn’t always work well with screen printing," says Harbauer. "With the laser you can etch a logo into the fabric. It doesn’t change the properties." The machine was introduced in Europe earlier in the year and in North America last year. "For the first time in 10 years we had people buying machines at a show," said Harbauer.
