EXHIBITION REVIEW

First time exhibitor showcases compact Horizon Mini

GK Marketing, on their first outing at Printwear & Promotion, were showcasing the entry level textile screen printer, Anatol's Horizon Mini. Graham King, managing director, told us: "We are distributors for Anatol screen printing machines, manual and automatic carousels. "Although we are new to the textile business we have been going for 25 years. "The one thing that most people would know us for is Henry, the vacuum cleaner. We supply all the faces for Henry - 700,000 faces a year!" According to Graham, the Horizon Mini is the smallest screen printer on the market. "It’s been made to fit the smaller footprint area where there isn’t much room. And as someone pointed out today, floor space in London is very expensive, so this is ideal for a small area. We have had a lot of interest, purely because of the size of the machine." The Horizon Mini, which goes up to seven colours, is the little brother to the Horizon, which has up to 12 colour stations. "There have been a lot of inquiries on the stand from people saying they're looking to start screen printing next year." The Horizon frame is built from heavy duty steel which facilitates high speeds and smooth

production cycles. Its large column with thrust ball bearing provides registration stability and long life. Its small footprint accommodates tight spaces. The pneumatic indexer contains a hydraulic shock absorber that is air cooled for superior running efficiency and durability in a wide range of operating conditions. The heavy duty linear bearings are easily accessible for maintenance.

Maderia announce new glow in the dark thread

A longer lasting glow in the dark thread has been launched at Printwear & Promotion LIVE! by Madeira UK. Speaking on the stand, industrial sales manager, Michael Cornish told us: "It’s not the first time that there has been a glow in the dark thread available, but the new technology means that this will glow a lot longer." The thread is "charged" on exposure to light. Says Cornish: "The length of time you charge it, will determine how long it glows. It has not been devised as a safety thing; it’s designed more in terms of enhancing a design on a garment, which will get noticed." Cornish says that the new thread, called Luna, could have applications in a number of environments, for example, on workwear in nightclubs. "There are other possible areas," he adds. "It could be used to enhance designs on bedlinen. I have got some very forward looking customers who can see the potential of this." The cost of Luna means that you would not want to use it as an infill thread or for a whole design. "But you would use it to enhance a design," adds Cornish. He suggests using the thread as an outline to a

The main control panel has a digital microprocessor that is easy to program for fast set- ups. It rotates 340 degrees for easy access. "We put the machine together without any instruction whatsoever, so it’s not difficult to put together," adds Graham. "These are quality built - and quality things don’t break down." design in fluorescen thread. "If you put this around the rest of the design it will sparkle up even more," suggest Cornish. Luna comes in off white, and it has a greenish glow in the dark. A 500m cone will sell for £7.20. Thanks to its composition, Luna is soft and kind to the skin and it can be used as a 40 weight thread. Other suggested uses include Halloween and carnival wear, outdoor and children’s wear. It is washing resistant and works with all embroidery designs. For more information visit www.madeira.co.uk

As South Wales based United Brands of Scandinavia was setting up its stand at Printwear & Promotion, athletes at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver were showcasing the company’s technical sportswear brand, Craft. “It’s a very popular brand,” said sales executive, David Morgan. A number of countries are wearing the brand at the Winter Olympics - the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden and a few others. The speed skaters are wearing it and the cross country skiers are wearing it. “We also sponsor a few other people, including Formula One champion, Jenson Button.” Craft sportswear is becoming ever more popular in the UK for specialised sports clothing in both the cycling and running world. Craft incorporates a three-layer principle. With one to three layers of Craft clothing, you can create the perfect microclimate. When ventilation and moisture dispersal function as they should, you achieve the optimal working temperature. Each layer is equally important and complements the rest of the chain. United Brands is the official and only distributor of Craft sportswear in the UK. For more information call 01685 812 111.
