Opening Doors to the West
The success of the first air/land tour to Nova
Scotia in 1958 planted yet a new idea in Arthur
Jr.’s head. Until the late 1950s, leisure travel to
the West was almost exclusively by rail and he was
determined to marry newly developed air travel
with his growing tour business. The National
Parks were incredible destinations, yet rarely seen
by Easterners. The biggest challenge was getting
access to the best, within-the-park hotels. Once
again, persistence paid off.
Over the course of 20 years, Arthur and his team
developed different journeys to the Canyonlands,
Colorado’s National Parks, Yellowstone and the
Grand Tetons and many other Western destinations.
Tens of thousands of guests combined these
famous tours and enjoyed them back-to-back.
Today, Tauck is the largest tour company to the
National Parks, with 30 tours featuring over 50
National Parks across the country, and is the only
company to guarantee rooms in extraordinary
hotels inside the parks such as: Old Faithful
Inn in Yellowstone, Kachina Lodge in the Grand
Canyon, the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite and
Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton.
Tauck has a close and long-standing
partnership with the National Park Service and
the National Park Foundation out of a shared
commitment to preserve these national treasures.

Bicentennial” tours.
