Giving Back
Tauck has a long history of giving back to the
destinations and local communities that have played an
important role in the company’s history and success.
For example, in the 1970s when the steeple of
Boston’s Old North Church desperately needed repair,
Arthur Tauck Jr. paid for the entire restoration. It
was his way of saying “thanks” for the hundreds
Guest-Volunteers
of thousands of Tauck guests who have learned
in Yellowstone
about “one if by land and two if by sea” in that
historic church.
Charitable grants and volunteer efforts by the
company fall under Tauck World of Giving. Over 50
destination grants have been provided to help fund
environmental protection, cultural integrity and
understanding, and historical preservation. These
grants range from the Alaska Raptor Center to
Mesa Verde National Park to educational camps for
children of South Africa.
The hallmark of World of Giving’s volunteer efforts is
the award-winning on-tour program in which Tauck’s
guests can elect to give several hours of their vacation
to help preserve a National Park. Started under the
leadership of Robin Tauck in 2004, the company was
thrilled to celebrate its 10,000th Yellowstone volunteer
in July of 2008.
In addition to Tauck’s corporate efforts to promote
sustainable travel and support volunteerism, three
generations of Taucks work with the Tauck Foundation
to provide grants to non-profit organizations (see
pages 64-65). The World of Giving and the Tauck
Foundation are led by Liz Tauck Walters.
Why does Tauck do all of this? As Arthur Tauck Jr.
would say: “It’s simply the right thing to do.”
