3700gns top at Dilandy Sale The sale of the entire milking portion from Andrew Shakeshaft’s Dilandy herd was held at Beeston Castle on 16th January, the cattle were being sold because of the loss of the farm’s milk contract which finished at the end of March. Leading trade at 3700gns was Lillyhall Snowman Faith, a GP84 two year old by Snowman and backed by five generations of VG and EX dams. Purchased as a calf at the Northern Lights Sale, she calved her first in May and sold served back to Mogul having produced 8014kg at 3.59%bf and 3.12%p so far. She joined Roosta Holsteins, Carmarthen. The same buyers also paid 2750gns for Dilandy Wyman Begonia another GP84 two year old. She is by the Goldwyn son Wyman and out of a VG85 scored Mr Sam daughter. Fresh in September she was served on Christmas Day to S-S-I Mogul Defender and was still giving 34kg on sale day. 2, classified VG85 two year old she calved in November. Her dam is Dilandy Debonair Tabitha, a full sister to the interbreed champion at the Royal Highland Show 2014 and Supercow at AgriScot in 2012. She was purchased by Smith Farms, Essex. Roosta Holsteins were purchasing again at 2500gns, this was paid for the September calved Wyman daughter Dilandy Wyman Cindy GP84. She sold giving 37kg and served back to Defender. Dilandy Goldfish Bibby sold for 2450gns to J F Owen,
Wrexham, this VG85 scored heifer calved in October and is served back to Moonray. The same buyer also purchased Dilandy Captain Kate 53 at 2250gns, fresh in November she is out of a dam by Design. Also making 2250gns was Dilandy Wyman Jackie GP81, this November calved heifer is served back to Shamrock. She sold giving 34kg a day to C V Whilock, Stoke on Trent. 4400gns top for Sahara at Sedgemoor At Sedgemoor’s collective dairy sale in January trade peaked at 4400gns for Sahara Supersonic Jennie from Sahara Holsteins. By Misty Springs Supersonic she is out of the VG89 Jeeves daughter Hood ATM Jennie who is backed by four more VG or EX dams. She was knocked down to Kingstonmagna Holsteins.
Second top at 2150gns was Rockhaye Glen Unwin from Rookhaye Estates and selling to Carmarthen. This two year old Glen-Valley Captain daughter is out of Rookhaye Talent Unwin VG88. A large consignment from David and Valerie Norman’s Ciderhouse herd saw calved heifers up to 1980gns, cows at 1700gns and a four week old Doorman heifer calf at 500gns. Cows were an easier trade with a top price of 1780gns for the second calved Bettiscombe Leif Linnet from Roland and Simon Bugler. Classified GP82 as a heifer she calved in December and is out of a VG88 scored dam by Lucente.
A large entry of in-calf heifers met a good trade compared to fresh milkers and sold to 1480gns for a Coldsprings Prentice daughter from R J Turner and Son, West Sussex. Other in-calf heifers sold at 1440gns and 1400gns for the same vendor as well as A J Fox’s Abbeymead Jordan Cydomia and KAM Farming’s commercial heifer by Galastar Bluesky.
Bulling heifers from the Buddleford Partnership sold to 900gns on three occasions for commercial heifers by England-Ammon Million, Solid-Gold Colby and Regan-ALH Derren. Yearling heifers from the same vendor sold to 680gns twice. Averages: calved cows £1646.25, calved heifers £1748.36, in-calf heifers £1375.50, calves £386.75.

Holsteins trade to 2950gns at Moira There was a complete clearance for freshly calved heifers at Holstein NI’s January Show and Sale, Moira. Trade peaked at 2950gns for the pre-sale champion Ardmore Windbrook Snowdrop from William and James Crawford. This Windbrook daughter is backed by five generations of VG or EX dams, out of a homebred dam by Shottle. She now joins Paul Flanagan’s noted Tubbertoby herd, Co Louth. Next best at 2550gns was Hilltara Mistral Dawn from Sam McCormick which sold to William Herron, Newtownhamilton. Sired by the homebred Sanchez son Hilltara Mistral she is out of a dam by Comestar Lee. The fifth placed Ards Alchemy Coreena sold at 2120gns for Harry, Wilson and Wallace Patton. This daughter of the Scientific Destry son Hunsberger Alchemy, is out of Fiddlersgreen Pericles Coreena Red VG86 who averaged over 9660kgs at 4.89%bf and 3.53%p in five 305-day lactations. She joins a herd in Co Tyrone. The same bidder paid 2120gns to secure the Patton family’s unshown Ards Trigger O Princess. She is by the Picston Shottle son Lars-Acres Shot Trigger and is out of a homebred dam by O-Bee Manfred Justice. Average: £1686. (Taaffe Auctions)
