Sterndale Alexander Ghostly 2 VG87 stood honourable mention in the intermediate championship for Bill Nadin. Fresh with her first in October and giving 40 litres a day, this Alexander daughter is out of Sterndale Shot Ghost EX90. As a calf she stood first at the All Breeds All Britain in 2012. In the Red and White championship it


was Knowlesmere Adventure Dream Red that took the honours for Andrew and Jane Whittaker under coloured breeds judge


Barclay Phoenix. Sired by Riverdane Adventure Red she classified VG85 as a heifer and was shown two weeks fresh in her second lactation giving 30 litres a day. She improved on her honourable mention placing as a heifer at UK Dairy Expo 2014. Her January 2014-born daughter Knowlesmere Destry Dream Red stood second and reserve champion the previous day in the junior show. Describing his champion Barclay said: “The winner was a very nice young cow with a great future. I’m sure she will only get better and better as she matures.” Standing reserve to her was Riverdane MB Strawberry Red the senior class winner from Robert Veitch. Classified EX90 she calved her fourth in September and was shown giving 47kg a day. She was one of 60 animals purchased privately from Mark Nutsford’s Riverdane herd. By Dudoc Mr Burns she is out of the EX scored Riverdane Strawberry Red. Barclay continued: “I admired the dairy qualities and open rib of the reserve cow, she followed on well from the champion.” Taking honourable mention was Yasmin Bradbury’s Sterndale Alchemy Noel Red, the two year old class winner. Fresh in December she is by Hunsberger Alchemy and out of the VG89 Sterndale Advent Noel Red.


With eight milking Holstein classes judging kicked off with a new class for milking yearlings and with five forward the class was won by Sterndale Gold Chip Ashlyn. Fresh in February she was

nominated All Britain Senior Calf 2014. Her dam, Smiddiehill Durm Ashlyn EX90 was intermediate champion at the National All Breeds Show 2010 and reserve All Britain junior cow 2010. Boclair Sid Hope won a class of 13 junior two year olds for David Brewster. This VG86 scored heifer calved in November and is out of Boclair Goldwyn Hope 2 EX92 who was champion at the West of Scotland Holstein Show 2014.


The red rosette also headed north of the border in the senior two year old class when Hugh Neilson’s Overside Gold Chip Judith stood top of the line. Calved in December and giving 40 litres a day she is by Gold Chip and is out of Overside Talisman Judith VG85. As a calf she stood first at the Scottish Calf Show 2013, qualifying for the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show.


High quality cows were present throughout with 83 milking entries forward, but it was the mature cows class which judge Hank van Exel felt deserved special mention. “I have had the privilege to judge International Dairy Week,
