fter a two year search for a farm the awarding of the tenancy of a Cheshire County Council farm has allowed Holstein enthusiasts Will and Louise Glenn the opportunity to milk their own Distinctive herd. Having gained the tenancy in 2010 husband and wife partnership Will and Louise are working hard to build a Holstein herd at Meadow Farm, Warrington.

Both Will and Louise studied agriculture, Will graduating with a BSc honours in Agricultural Technology from Greenmount and Louise a BSc honours in Animal Health and Welfare from Harper Adams before the pair met.
Northern Ireland born and bred Will travelled for a few months in Australia after graduating before moving to England as a herdsman to work with Mark Nutsford’s Riverdane herd. During his two years at Riverdane he met Louise and after six months together the pair travelled to Madison in October 2006. While in America they purchased embryos which they implanted in to recipients housed at Louise’s family’s farm. As these embryos were born the couple sold the recipients as fresh calvers at Beeston and by 2007 had nine ET bred embryo heifer calves on the ground.
Will went on to do relief milking and general farm work around Cheshire and in the winter of 2009 rented a shed locally to rear and keep heifers in as

Determination and hard work has seen Will and Louise Glenn successfully build up their Distinctive herd at Meadow Farm
well as rearing black and white bull calves to turn over some money.
Meanwhile, Louise was still working as manager of Cornerstone for Genus ABS, a job she was offered on leaving Harper Adams. Here she looked after the young bull testing programme. After two years of looking for opportunities for a farm, in May 2010 Meadow Farm was advertised and Will and Louise sent in their application for the 15 year tenancy of the 94 acre farm. From applying to confirmation it took four months and included two interviews.
