Froukje 219 VG87 (Pinkpop) Froukje 277 VG89 (Novalis)
Prehen Goldwyn Froukje ET EX93 (Goldwyn) Prehen Omen (O-Bee Manfred Justice)
and +3.66%P in her fourth 305 day lactation, not only did she breed the high PLI sire, Omen, but she has also bred a few notable daughters that dominate the top gPLI cow list. Prehen Justice Froukje sits at number six (PLI £472), Prehen Mascol Froukje VG87 (PLI £459) is in position nine, while Prehen Oman Froukje ranks at number 19 (PLI £424). Goldwyn Froukje, who was the result of an embryo imported from Europe by the Smith family of Prehen, also still appears in the top list - after two years - at number 13 (PLI £445).
The Smith family admit the Froukje family has had a tremendous impact on their herd. Goldwyn Froukje’s De-Su Observer son was the fi rst son to sell at auction achieving a top price of 5000gns at Holstein NI’s February 2013 show and sale at Moira while a grandson, Prehen Frontier (Schillview Oman Gerard x VG87 Mascol x EX93 Goldwyn), sold privately for a herd record of €14,950 to Germany.
PROGENY: Omen’s fi rst daughters were born in February 2011. Three of his fi rst four daughters classifi ed
VG-2yr. His 57 classifi ed daughters are strongly put together and possess more width than stature, making them great cubicle friendly animals. Milk production certainly doesn’t fall short in his daughters either. Omen’s fi rst classifi ed daughter, Relough Omen Danna VG86 (Omen x Dollarman), produced 10,259kgs in her fi rst 305 day lactation with +4.13%F and 3.2%P, while another early daughter, Relough Omen Roxie
3 VG86, gave 10,616kgs in her fi rst 305 day lactation with +4.15%F and +3.31%P.
WHAT THE OWNER SAYS: Malcolm McLean, Relough Holsteins: We had fi rst
hand experience of the tremendous milk quality and fertility traits of the Froukje family before Prehen Omen was born as we were milking maternal sisters of his dam. The Froukje family, now under the Frances name at Relough, all possess strong fat and protein and have become infl uential in our herd; they come in heat and get in calf quickly. We purchased Omen as we thought the Goldwyn x Oman cross would further enhance these traits and characteristics of the family as well as add style. What we got was all of this plus much more. I would suggest looking to Omen for fertility, milk quality and management traits. We also have no doubt that his strength and Type will please most farmers.
WHAT THE STUD SAYS: Ivan Minford, AI Services NI: Omen is our top selling
bull and since the December 2014 proof run, his sales have trebled and he is outselling his production levels. Importantly, customer satisfaction and feedback is
extremely positive.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Prehen Omen can suit all farming systems with his solid Type proof and his excellent
locomotion score. He breeds strong robust cows with amazing daughter fertility.
