A small show of British Friesians were forward and taking the championship title for sole exhibitors Basil and Adam Lawson was Lismulligan Priscilla 41. This homebred sixth calver is classified BFE92, fresh at the end of February she is giving 38 litres. She also took the championship title at UK Dairy Expo 2014 having been champion at the Dairy Event 2011 and reserve in 2012. Reserve here went to Skyhigh Rocket Pauline 2, a BFV87 classified Marshside Rocket 3 daughter. She calved her second in September, is due again in August and is projected to give 7000 litres. She was purchased as an in-calf heifer and was first and honourable mention at UK Dairy Expo last year as well as being second and honourable mention at the Livestock Event 2014.


On the Friday afternoon Michael Yates led Holmland Atwood Marie to win the junior championship. Purchased for 7200gns at the Black and White Sale 2014 from Stephen Bell this March 2014-born heifer is out of Denmire Gibson Marie 22, one of three generations of EX94 classified cows. Hank commented: “I loved the overall quality of this heifer, she was really stylish and very well balanced.” Reserve to her was Knowlesmere Shadow

Diamond from the Whittaker family. Born in April 2013 and sired by B-Crest Shadow she is out of Knowlesmere Terra Diamond EX92, a member of the same family as the highly successful show cow Knowlesmere Jordan Diamond EX95. Last year Shadow Diamond stood second at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show as well as winning numerous junior championships at county shows. On her first outing Lynholme Glauco Pledge stood honourable mention for the Lawrence family. Her dam, Holmland Lavanguard Pledge, was purchased for 3200gns at the Holmland dispersal and stood first heifer in milk at Northern Expo and second at AgriScot, having been reserve champion at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show and champion calf at Great Yorkshire Show. She also stood second in the junior three year old class at UK Dairy Expo 2015. In the junior Red and White show Jodie Nutsford led Riverdane Barbwire Adventageous Red to stand champion for Riverdane Holsteins. She stood Red and White champion at the Western Calf Show 2014, born in January 2014 she is by Hylite Barbwire and out of Riverdane Gold Adventageous VG86. Red from the Whittaker family stood reserve champion. Meanwhile Syke Savard Jodie Red stood honourable mention for Andrew Struthers. Sired by Savard Red she is out of Syke Jet Black Jodie VG86, a Riverdane Adventure Red daughter. Claire Swale took centre stage for the showmanship classes and HYB members were very much to the fore with Will Horsley taking championship honours leading Woodcatt Explode Irene. Having come through as winner of the senior class, Will, 17, has previously won his class at the All Britain Calf Show twice. Taking reserve spot was 21 year old Bob Lawrence, winner of the mature class. Leading Lynholme Cute Wishes, Bob has been winner at Lancashire Calf Show, champion at Great Yorkshire and second at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show. Meanwhile, Alison Hunter came forward to stand honourable mention having stood second to Will in the senior class. In the past Alison has stood champion at the Lanarkshire and Scottish Calf Shows as well as being reserve at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show 2014.
