LIFE OF A DAY IN THE

JOSH RICHARDSON PROJECT MANAGER AT HAVARD GROUP

I wake between 07.00a.m. and 07.30a.m. most mornings - the first thing I do is get the kettle on and make a strong coffee.

Upon arriving at Havard House at around 07.45a.m., I plan the day ahead. This includes responding to e-mails, updating my calendar (which is guaranteed to be full) and ringing our teams on site.

The Havard Group consists of four companies; Building Renovations Ltd, Tower Shopfitting & Construction Ltd, HVC Jersey Ltd and BR Plumbing & Heating Services Ltd. On any given day I may be working on a project for any one of our four group companies. Each company has numerous projects working in different sectors; from domestic extensions, school boiler replacements to largescale commercial developments. You need a good memory to keep track of all the names, faces, places, products, subcontractors and suppliers we use at any one time.

Over the past 18 months, I have also managed the day-to- day operations of our plumbing business, BR Plumbing & Heating Services Ltd. It has been hugely beneficial to learn fundamental business principles from the experienced Senior Management team within the Group. It is often underestimated how challenging running a business can be – kudos to all business owners out there.

My morning workload can include general paperwork, procurement activities, project briefings and catch up meetings with our management and site teams.

My day is primarily spent working across our Group companies where I help the management team grow the services we offer and deliver on the vision we have for our future. This can include quotations, managing client expectations on projects, monitoring job profitability, subcontractor procurement and quality management. Every day and project is different.

Alongside working on the day-to-day trading activities of our Group, I manage the marketing and advertising functions. In addition to this, I control our group training schedule ensuring all our site staff have the most up-to-date safety training available. Part of my role also includes advertising for vacancies within the group and arranging interviews with successful candidates. We are always looking for hardworking and reliable staff – and anyone interested in a fresh start at a growing and successful construction group should apply.
