s a competitive supplier of telecommunication services in the Crown Dependencies, Newtel international network has diverse interconnects which link the islands through both London and Paris. Using separate undersea cables
Newtel connects Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man to Europe and the rest of the World.
The company has come a long way since it was established in Jersey in 1988. Its first backbone international link had a capacity of 155Mbps which had to be quickly upgraded to 1Gig and in 2020 had a massive overhaul. We upgraded our backbone transmission network so now it can scale up to multiple 100Gbps in capacity with a state of art multilink protection scheme.
Our international network is, therefore, secure and fully resilient, with geographically diverse submarine cables to each island.

Competition in Jersey and Guernsey
Newtel believes that market competition is essential for the development of a modern telecommunications infrastructure oriented to the customer and its needs. Unfortunately, the Channel Islands have still a way to go and the duopoly that the two current incumbents have makes competing on a level playing field still a distant hope. However, Newtel has heavily invested in both on-island and off-island infrastructure and guarantees to continue to provide a fully resilient service at a price the incumbents will not match.
In any unregulated market, it is difficult for any telco to compete and survive, and that is certainly the case in Jersey and Guernsey. The incumbent telcos in both islands have a dominant position, and the regulation is almost non- existent. The regulatory bodies have little or no power to enforce decisions even when evidence of breach and abuse of dominant position are established.
The appeal of an infrastructure alternative to JT and Sure in the Channel Island is certainly growing and current

customers and future ones need digital services to survive and thrive.
Jersey
In Jersey Newtel has the second largest
infrastructure after JT and it is growing. Currently our goal is to expand our fibre access network in a controlled
manner to allow
us to break free from the monopoly of high prices and constraints set by the incumbents.
Our expansion gives us the ability to provide innovative and different services that businesses require.
When it comes to residential broadband, Newtel plays a
