The patient will be supported by a team of experienced specialists in neurology, psychology and pain with expert knowledge of prescribing medicinal cannabis, as well as experienced local General Practitioners on the Jersey performers list who will provide direct on- Island support. We also have the backing of a number of local specialists including those in pain management, with whom we hope to work closely.

CHRONIC PAIN THERE MIGHT BE HOPE!

The Medicann clinic aims to offer a high-quality service to Jersey residents in their quest to obtain help with the management of a group of chronic conditions for which medicinal cannabis might be beneficial.

By Dr. Phil Terry, Medical Lead, Medicann

The Clinic is located in a well-known, high quality facility alongside other medical specialities, as we aim to provide an excellent patient experience. Medicann will use a local pharmacy to fulfil its prescriptions for medicinal cannabis. We hope that this will simplify the importation of this controlled drug under special licence for the majority of patients thus reducing the complexities of importation currently being faced by, not only the patient, but by Jersey Customs and the Chief Pharmacist. We will aim to control the amount of medicinal cannabis in the community by restricting individual supply to between 2 and 4 weeks of medication at any one time.

The Clinic will follow strict governance criteria, adhering to NICE guidelines, by providing prescriptions under specialist supervision. We aim to support a limited number of conditions for which there is evidence of the benefits of medicinal cannabis including pain, sleep disorders, anxiety, PTSD, palliative care and spasticity. Patients should have had symptoms for over 12 months and which have not responded to other treatments, excluding those referred for help with symptoms associated with palliative care. We plan to carry out research on the effects of medicinal cannabis through patient feedback. We intend to use Virtual Reality and ground-breaking wearable technology that will assess patient performance and monitor anxiety levels as well as their general health both on and off the medication. We hope to compare its effects with other medication available on prescription. We will aim to review our patients need for other analgesics and tranquilisers and support their controlled reduction where possible.

Medicann is offering a more affordable way for Jersey patients to access medicinal cannabis compared to similar clinics in the U.K. Medicann wants to provide the best experience and support for our local patients who are looking to improve the quality of their lives by taking advantage of the proven benefits of medicinal cannabis for the relief of their symptoms.
