St Helier’s waterfront?

n August 2020 The States of Jersey Development Company announced the appointment of


award-winning design practice Gillespies to develop a visionary framework for Southwest St Helier. Gillespies was selected to lead the designs for four of the Key Opportunity sites within the area covered by the Southwest St Helier Planning Framework following a competition in conjunction with the Design Council.


The Visionary Framework will establish the overarching narrative for the Key Opportunity sites


first’ approach. The aim is to transform the existing waterfront and surrounding land into a vibrant mixed-use quarter that provides a series of green open spaces and public amenities to support the island’s needs.


Gillespies’ initial proposal includes: • a new public park and landscaped gardens at Les Jardins de la Mer including an underground public car park;


• a landscaped pedestrian bridge over Route de la


Liberation;


• a redesigned indoor public pool and gym and new outdoor public saltwater pool;


• an Art / Culture building ; and


• Over 1,000 new homes with ground floor space for a gym, crèche and food and beverage facilities.


The work will culminate in an outline planning application being submitted in May 2021. Gillespies are leading the masterplanning, landscape and public realm design, with HETA Architects delivering the architecture and ICENI, Waterman Group and WSP providing stakeholder and community consultation and infrastructure expertise respectively.
