THIS MONTH’S COVER SHOT: P46 P24 P21
The season is really heating up now, with new rides and attractions opening all over the world ready for the influx of summer visitors. The Park World editorial team has had the difficult task of deciding who gets to go to which openings - tempting as it was to go to all of them myself, I thought I had better spend a few days in the office this summer. We do have a magazine to publish, ya know. As such, newly-appointed assistant editor Hannah Hart will be reporting on the launch of new Mack Rides mega coaster ICON at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK: keep an eye out for her Ride Profile next month. I did, however, get to try out newly rethemed Vekoma
coaster The Walking Dead: The Ride at Thorpe Park in the southeast UK. In a partnership with experiential design firm Holovis, the steel coaster, formerly called ‘X: No Way Out’ has been reimagined with elements from the hugely popular US TV show. The queue is now a zombie infested bunker and an immersive preshow suggets the undead are right outside and on the verge of breaking in… See rather attractive picture - I did enjoy it, I promise! In this month’s mag, Paul Ruben takes a look at Silver Dollar City’s new steampunk-themed X-treme Spinning Coaster by Mack Rides, which combines spinning vehicles with extreme coaster thrills for a truly unique ride - page 32. On page 44, meanwhile, we talk to Xavier Lopez Ancona about his brainchild interactive kids play concept Kidzania, which allows its young visitors to role- play real life jobs including pilots, doctors and firemen. Happy reading!
