egistration has opened for the 2018 Asian Attractions Expo, and this year’s show promises to be as varied and jam-packed as ever. Held at the Hong Kong
Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong Area – one of Hong Kong’s tourism and entertainment hotspots. Dr Zeman, a resident of Hong Kong for more than 45 years and previous chairman of Ocean Park, will share insights about developing world-class destinations, creating successful attractions, and positively contributing to the region’s tourism industry. In addition to 15 general education sessions led by industry
professionals, the Animal Welfare: Trends, Issues, and Strategies Forum is open exclusively to IAAPA members. The conference will update attendees about the issues, perceptions, and trends facing attractions and facilities with animals, as public attention and concern about animal welfare has increased exponentially. The implications of these trends are significant and profoundly affect zoos and aquariums. Jim Hekkers, retired managing director of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, will lead a forum that explores the key components of the issues while providing actionable information to help organisations understand, cope with, and proactively manage potential public criticism. Later in the day, the Lunch and Learn: Developing Successful Ride and Show Entertainment with Virtual Reality and Projection Mapping will take place, as well as the Young Professionals Forum and Reception. This reception, designed for students and those new to the industry, offers tips and tricks for successful networking and career advancement, peer-to- peer advice, and an immersive speed networking event where those new skills can be put to the test! One of the EDUTours on offer at the expo takes place Ocean Park Hong Kong. Visitors can take a behind-the-scenes look at how the park maintains its world-famous cable car attraction – a transportation system that combines sweeping views and efficiency. The tour also includes a visit to the virtual reality “Mine Train” maintenance area, where planning, production, operations and maintenance of the attraction is covered. Another EDUTour is available at Hong Kong Disneyland,
where attendees will get a comprehensive look at Iron Man Experience – Disney’s first immersive, interactive Marvel- themed ride. Kelly Willis, director creative development and show quality standards, will present how over 70 Disney Imagineers from Hong Kong contributed to a meeting-of-the- minds with the international Walt Disney team, creating the world first Iron Man-themed area.
