Shanghai Haichang announces 2018 opening date

S

hanghai Haichang Ocean Park will open on September 28 announced park chairman, Wang Wei. The announcement

was made during an event at Shanghai’s Intercontinental Hotel, where additional park details were also revealed.

The Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park was designed by the Hollywood based independent entertainment design company, Legacy GGE, and is the latest expansion by Dalian Haichang Group,

China’s largest marine theme park operator. Positioned less than 30 minutes from Shanghai

Disneyland by car, the 73-acre theme park is expected to draw over 3m visitors during its first year of operation.

In addition to six pavilions and three theatres, the

new park will also be home to a number of non- sea life related attractions, including an Intamin launched roller coaster, and the world’s longest Spinning Rapids Ride, provided by WhiteWater.

Summer set to see mini theme parks scale even greater heights

In addition to traditional theme parks, family entertainment centres are also an important part of Dubai’s entertainment and leisure industry – and the trend continues to grow steadily. According to International Expo Consults, the organisers of the DEAL Dubai Entertainment Amusement and Leisure 2018 show, innovative products and new technology like Virtual Reality (VR) will play a huge role for FECs in the near future, especially in Dubai. A popular location for such centres is in shopping malls,

where they are seamlessly integrated with the retail sector. Malls and FECs complement each other as they provide avenues for people of all ages, thereby increasing footfall. Industry experts argue that since the rise in popularity of online marketplaces, retail has been slow to pull in the numbers of the yesteryears and it is the FECs that are increasing the footfall at the malls.

New carousel for Arnolds Park

Arnolds Park Amusement Park is adding a new ride this summer. The northwest Iowa amusement park will have a new 36 foot 2018 carousel made by Chance Rides. The new ride will be 8 feet larger than the current carousel that the park has and will be housed in a gazebo that can be closed in the winter to protect the ride from the elements. The new ride will have not only standard horses, but

MAY 2018

also will include a chariot, a wheelchair chariot, an elephant, a tiger, a lion, and an assortment of other animals. It will also include five upgraded large horses for guests to experience. The renovation so far has included a new ticket office, a new parking lot, in park bathrooms, a renovation of the Majestic Pavilion and park administration offices, and an expansion of the Maritime Museum.
