Fort Fun receives new Sunkid train for SpeedSnake
A
brand new SunKid Heege Coaster Train is now running on a 35-year-old Whirlwind rail route named SpeedSnake, originally
produced by Vekoma. The Coaster Train in Fort Fun if the fourth train that SunKid has put ‘on the rails’ within three years.
The most notable change on the new Coaster
Train is the switch from shoulder to belly brackets, the change not only makes the train visually ‘lighter’ but also gives guests an entirely new, free feeling during the ride. The uncovered design of the stomach brackets also permits faster (visual) inspections of the safety-relevant parts without disassembly work or loss of comfort for the passengers. “This unique selling point was one of the main
reasons we chose the SunKid Heege train,” explains Fort Fun CEO Andreas Sievering. “For me as the operator, it is of course of great interest that the old track can be virtually unchanged. The passengers have a new attraction in terms of the feel of the ride though and SunKid truly mastered this task outstandingly with its new train.”
The last hurrah for Rainbow’s End classic attraction
After 34 years, the Pirate Ship at Ranbow’s End, Auckland, New Zealand will swing it last swing this month to make way for a new attraction planned for late next year. The ongoing upkeep and maintenance costs of the ride played a part in the decision to retire it from service. This is part of the park’s plan to introduce new rides and attractions, supported by fact that the park has seen attendance levels grow by 62% since 2009. “The Pirate Ship has been a fantastic attraction that has spanned several
generations,” says Chris Deere, CEO of Rainbow’s End. “We have exciting plans for this area however so have decided that the time is now right to retire this ride and invest in an exciting new
attraction as part of the Park’s ongoing capital investment programme.” Farewell celebrations will be held on Saturday 19th August with prizes for best- dressed pirates and photo opportunities at the Pirate Ship.
