Great Nor’Easter now granny proof

The newly refurbished Great Nor'Easter roller coaster has been unleashed at Morey's Piers & Beachfront Water Parks, New Jersey. During the winter, the 1995 Vekoma suspended looping coaster located on Surfside Pier underwent a five-million dollar re- tracking project by the Netherlands-based manufacturer for a smoother ride. The upgraded coaster now boasts 2,170 feet (661 m) of new and improved track all wrapped up in a sleek new paint job. With a 95-foot (29 m) drop, the revamped ride has speeds to appease even the biggest coaster buffs. When it came time to re-introduce the coaster, Morey’s took a unique turn. To demonstrate just how smooth the faster, smoother Great Nor’Easter is, Morey’s Piers hosted the first-ever “Granny Opening.” The coaster’s inaugural ride featured a gaggle of grandmas, and some grandpas too, led by second- generation partners Jack and Will Morey. Having no shame, Jack Morey donned a Granny wig and sported blue lipstick for the event. After the grannies give the official green light, the celebration continued with music, free rides, and refreshments.

Skyline Attractions sell first Skywarp

Skyline Attractions have sold their first Skywarp, scheduled to open in 2018 at a yet-to-be-named location. This experience offers 32 passengers a unique journey as they board the two competing ride vehicles. The train begins rocking back and forth, building up to full speed before completing several thrilling forward and reverse rotations through the twin Immelmann inversions over track length of 360 feet (110 m). The unique concept was first shown at the 2016

IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando. The design of Skywarp allows it to deliver the thrills a modern coaster in a compact footprint. "Skywarp has everything that operators of all sizes

desire," said Evan Souliere, founding partner of Skyline Attractions. “Big impact, big thrills, big visibility, and big capacity with a small footprint and a small price." The small 120 foot by 30 foot (37 m x 9 m)

footprint allows for the placement of the attraction in nearly any location, and topping out at 62 feet (19 m) in height it can even fit in many indoor locations. Ride Entertainment is the sales partner for Skyline

Attractions.

Drop Tower rises at Gillian’s

Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, New Jersey, has erected an A.R.M./Larson International Super Shot drop tower for the 2017 season. Park World was there as the second of three sections was being lifted into place, shown here. The 130-foot (40 m) Drop Tower gives riders a breath taking experience as they accelerate towards the ground from a height of 120 feet (37 m), reaching a speed of 47 mph (76 kph). The drop tower also offers awesome aerial views of the Ocean City beach and boardwalk. The Super Shot drop tower is a towering structure

that requires a small footprint. Guests load in the round 12-passenger gondola and are slowly lifted the entire height of the tower. Once the gondola reaches the top, the vehicle is released at free fall speeds. The gondola enters into a magnetic brake zone and is smoothly captured at the bottom.
