Ian, what did you do before Walfi nch? I was a trader in London, trading equities for 12 years. I would leave home at 5:30am and I wouldn’t be back until after 6:30pm.
Tell us why you opened the Welwyn and Bishop's Stortford Walfi nch franchise... Working in the city made life quite diffi cult because we have young children. I wanted to be based locally, have more fl exibility and more control over my time. I chose home care because the sector is future-proof and will gain from the demographic shifts we’re seeing.
How has your Walfi nch franchise helped bring about a work-life balance? Family time is much easier to plan and I’m around for a lot more of those moments that I previously wasn’t when working in the city working a structured, long day.
Ian, how's business going so far? I started just over three years ago and it was just me back then. Now we have over 30 staff and we’re on track to turnover upwards of £1 million in 2023.
How does the franchisor support you? I really do appreciate the support from the franchisor. There is a team there of experts in their fi elds, very experienced people and I can go to them with any questions I have whether that’s marketing, compliance, or operations.
Amy, how has buying a Walfi nch franchise impacted family life? Having Ian around has changed things so dramatically, particularly for the children and their lives would be very different if we hadn’t bought a Walfi nch franchise. They wouldn’t be able to do half the clubs they do now.
