The Specsavers journey: From humble beginnings to empowering partnerships
S
pecsavers started life on a ping- pong table in the spare room of Doug and Mary Perkins in 1984.
Nearly 40 years on, the company has grown to become the world's largest privately-owned opticians with 2,615 locations across 11 countries. While a lot's changed, Doug and Mary's purpose remains the same: to change people’s lives through better sight and hearing. Not just one business, Specsavers is made up of thousands of individual ones. Each is owned and run by the opticians, audiologists and retailers who work there – whether that's in store or as part of the Home Visits service.
Sanveer Benning's home visits journey Sanveer is a domiciliary optometrist. He’s also a partner in a home visits service based in South East England, which provides eye care for people who can’t make it to the high street. “It’s very different from being in a store” he says. “And that’s not a bad thing, especially if you’re looking for a change. It’s helped me become a better clinician and a more compassionate person.”
Helen Elliott: Crafting her auditory path Joining Specsavers in 2012 as an optical assistant, Helen discovered her passion for audiology. With the support of Specsavers, she moved roles, retrained, and pursued a degree in audiology. Today, as the audiology partner at Specsavers Washington, Helen is not just changing the lives of her patients but also leaving a mark on those around her. Reflecting on her journey, she says: "The support from Specsavers, at all levels, has been fantastic over the years."
Stefano: Charting a path of perpetual growth Beginning his journey in 1998 as an optical assistant, he swiftly progressed,

“An array of Specsavers partnership opportunities present avenues for genuine impact”
fuelled by his unwavering passion for optics. As the years passed Stefano navigated multiple roles—from dispensing optician to spearheading a dedicated contact lens section, eventually embracing his aspiration as retail director. Reflecting on his time with Specsavers, Stefano believes the journey of growth is perpetual. "Specsavers has consistently nurtured my ambitions, and today, I derive great joy in guiding others on their career journeys," he says.
An unwavering commitment to inclusivity ensures every voice in the Specsavers' workforce is celebrated, but what does this mean for potential partners? Specsavers offers an array of partnership opportunities, through the
