IN THE LIFE Alternative days!
Elliot Rich, The Alternative Board’s Fra nchise Owner of the Year
E
lliot has achieved phenomenal success with his franchise based in York – the company’s highest earning territory – and has this
year been joined by wife Natalie to continue their expansion across the region. Natalie brings a wealth of corporate expertise having previously worked for brands including Marks & Spencer, Hallmark Cards, Boost Drinks and BMW. Here they share a typical day as TAB franchisees:
WAKE UP TIME – 7AM
A Nespresso while we catch up with the news on TV.
We prioritise making sure our teenage twin girls make the school bus.
Today is a busy day. I’m off to York for a board meeting, where The Alternative Board (TAB) members come together to advise one another on business challenges. After that I have a 1-1 with another member and a new business meeting. Natalie is working for home, planning for her next board meeting, and pursuing new prospects.
We value the freedom we have as franchisees to manage and control our diaries.
8.30AM
Off to York. En route, I listen to a podcast for inspiration, today it’s Simon Sinek – A bit of Optimism.
9.15AM
90% of our TAB board meetings are held in members' offi ces to see how other businesses operate and share best practice. Today’s host is a janitorial supplies business.
9.30AM – 1.30PM
Six business owners around the board table, plus me as the facilitator.
An intense session with great discussions – this peer
tabfranchise.co.uk
board has been together for several years and really understands how best to align advice that is relevant to each individual.
“We value the freedom we have to manage and control our diaries”
1.30PM
Eat on the go while listening to some Heart 80-90s! 2.30PM
Meeting with a long-standing TAB member who manufactures beverages. A 1-1 session focussed on reviewing performance concerns in retail sales. We review opportunities to scale the business and recap on progress in line with his company and personal visions.
4.30PM
I have just 30 mins with a new lead so focus quickly on understanding this prospect and his business. I then share an overview of the TAB model and how I could help drive his business forward. We end by arranging to meet at his offi ces next week.
5.05PM
Quick call to mum as I take the country route home to beat the traffi c.
6.00PM
Unwind with a session in my home gym (aka the garage), then it's dinner – mobile-free time with the family, talking about our days and how school went. My girls
take great interest in my day’s work and love the fact I talk to business owners for a living. I tell them there is a little more to it than that!
