New horizons I

t might surprise you to know that the etymological root of the word ‘redundant’ is much less desolate than the meaning we normally take

from it. In fact, it comes from a combination of Old French ‘redondare’, meaning to rise up, surge or overflow, and the Latin for ‘rebound’ – both of which are rather more positive- sounding phrases for what can be a devastating status to have foisted upon you. So, on the spirit of renewal

and resurgence in the face of a setback, this month's issue takes a look at how turning to

a franchise after leaving the workplace – whether through choice or not – can be the path through a new door leading to a new life. Turn to pages 71-73 to read up on the franchisees enjoying the next chapter of their working lives by running their own businesses with the help of a tried-and-tested brand Whether you’re interested

in a franchise because of redundancy, or lifestyle changes or ambition to become your own boss, there’s no better place to start this journey than at the forthcoming British

& International Franchise Exhibition. Taking place over 17 & 18 June at London Olympia, the event offers the opportunity to meet a variety of high-quality franchise brands, attend a packed timetable of talks, panel discussions and workshops and drop in to talk to financial, legal and career advisors. Turn to page 24 for a sneak

preview of the event and some of the brands you can meet face-to-face this summer. Don’t forget to register for your FREE tickets at FranchiseTickets.co.uk – we look forward to seeing you there!
