GREEN FINGERS

Dave Lister of X-Press Legal Services, a leading ineenent roey search franchise

How did you get involved in franchising? We launched in 1998 after my wife Lynne and I decided to do something for ourselves, and were joined by our eldest son, Christian. We had no real experience in the sector but did our research and quickly grew a trusted client base that began to expand across England and Wales. We were soon busy, under sourced

and getting close to burnout due to the demand for our service. We explored all avenues of expanding and franchising allowed us to continue doing what we loved whilst growing our business in an ethical way.

Tell us a career highlight... Creating a business alongside my wife and family... and it's also amazing to take someone who knows nothing about the sector and turn them into a property search expert. I have trained all our franchisees, and nothing provides more satisfaction.

What was your childhood drea o A steam train driver! My gran had a newspaper concession at Victoria station in Manchester, so got free rail passes. I once rode from Blackpool to Manchester

on the footplate of a steam train, got covered in coal dust and ate egg and bacon off a shovel!

Who do you turn to for advice? My wife, Lynne. We've been together since 14. We have been each other’s guide and moral compass, as well as best friends for over 50 years.

How do you relax? At the seaside – our place in Conwy is the perfect way to wind down. I also love gardening... and chatting and putting the world to rights, somewhere in proximity to a bar!

Tell us a little-known fact about you… I was once stranded on the M6 motorway for two days in the snow.

What's your... drink of choice? Gin and tonic or a draught cider.

...ideal holiday destination? There is nowhere finer than the Greek Islands – absolute bliss!

hod la o in the fil o your life? ou cannot beat a good ritish film with a strong moral tale. I’d pick Jim Broadbent, or if I was being ‘edgy’, Michael Caine.
